    Charging old batteries

This is how I understand it, de-sulfating devices are good while the battery still has enough capacity to be used on a vehicle. It's better to keep the battery charged at all times from square one and not having to worry about sulfate build-up in the first place. A specific gravity measuring...

    trip out west

Change engine oil/filters before you go. Change engine oil/filters before you go. Bring extra turn signal flasher(s), headlight and light bulbs. Stick reflector tape on the back of your truck, you want to be seen at all times driving slower then most. Keep in touch with this forum...best company...

    Winch operation?

Vintage Video "M-series Military Vehicles" #VHS133 has a film showing the operation of the winch, every part of the operation is covered.....

How much breather blow-by is too much??

As far as quantity and pressure, I measuerd it in conjunction with the installation of the crankcase breather filter. There is an MVM article on this... The amount of oil is about 1/10 of a quart every 1,000 miles and the pressure is about 1/50 psi (convert to inches of Hg or water or whatever)...

    Charging old batteries

Too late here and sulfation can be prevented by keeping batteries charged at all times. From what I read, sulfation is only a problem when the battery voltage drops below 12.4.

    Oil filter adapter

Here is the thread: http://steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=12492&start=40 I removed the hand pump some time ago. The pressure comes up pretty quick on this engine with its higher capacity oil pump anyway.

    Charging old batteries

It's not over yet.... Cranked the engine, which started as usual within seconds and ran the truck for approx 45 minutes. Turned on the Chargetek again and it spent an hour or so in constant voltage mode and switched to float charge. So far so good. Cranked the engine again, which started even...

Can a 5 ton cargo convert to tractor?

Good write-ups Lee and Lee. FWIW, the m656/757 (5-tonners) also feature 100% air brakes....

    Charging old batteries

Some time during the night the charger switched to "Stage 3" Float mode. The voltages are now 13.16 and 13.19 on the batteries and the light is green. Keeping the charger plugged in will hold the batteries at full charge. This concludes this little experiment/demonstration. The batteries are...

    Deuce TMs

Kenny, the '65 TMs come with different "Changes", perhaps you could identify what changes are included (just to hazzle you a bit :-))....

    Convoy Central

Many thanks Brandon for bringing the 8x8 tire, couldn't ask for more! Wasn't aware that you live in the Western part of NC, perhaps we can "convoy" together next time since my drive to Aberdeen (Doswell) is a long lonely one. Did you include the cubie (4-1/2 gallon) of biodiesel in the above mpg...

    Charging old batteries

Battery voltages are now 14.37 and 14.45, so they have stabilized and the charger should be in "Stage 2", which is the constant voltage phase.....

    Charging old batteries

Thanks, need to do my homework. :-) Looking over the article, the first task will be to define the terms used, "series strings", "pack", "cell", "monoblock" and the meaning of "battery" here.... Okay, tell me how "Stage 1" below differs from an equalization charge, please.

    Charging old batteries

That is what this charger does, it addresses each battery separately and the end result should be two identically charged batteries. You may notice that the voltages are approaching the same level. Just checked them and they are now 9 mV apart, 14.34 and 14.43 respectively. I'll keep posting the...

    DEUCE spin on oil filters!!!!

Looks like your oil pump has to work at a higher pressure than "normal". The drop across the original filters is about 5 to 6 psi when the filters are new and another 3 to 4 psi across the oil cooler. Patrick (OPCOM), what is the pressure drop across that filter for the given flow rate and...

    Charging old batteries

...after about 26 hours, both batteries show 13.8 volts plus or minus....red light still on. Should switch to constant voltage mode when 14.6 volts is reached. Just checked it, now after 36 hours, they read 14.29 and 14.40.

    Canvas for the xm757

A little rain, some sun and there is movement....maybe there was more than one reason for using vinyl to begin with, the 100 inch wide cotton canvas will shrink a lot. I'm now considering using the vinyl(?) shown to the left in the image, part of a HMMWV top from Wayne Harris a couple of years...
