Greg, dead batteries should not be charged by the vehicle charging system. See my thread:

I won't even attempt to start the truck until the batteries are fully charged (after Chargetek green/float charge light comes on). If...
Yesterday, I installed the two 6TMF batteries I got from Medlog at Aberdeen.
The Chargetek 500 is handling it from now on and after 18 hours it is still in "Bulk charge" mode with measured voltages of 13.08 and 13.24 volts on them.
Both batteries were manufactured in 2000 and measured about...
A little further along the way...some turn fasteners installed.
Now I'm concerned about possible shrinkage and excessive tension in places...everything requires some learning.... aua
The only "Mil Spec" clocks I have found are old aircraft or Russian...kind of interesting that no clocks were used on trucks. I use mine all the time (from Russian tank application). Think about it, many TM instructions include time specifications, wrist watches weren't issued as far as I know....
If the batteries started out poorely charged, they would be charged at a high rate, which may have overheated them....
The vehicle charging system is not designed to charge drained batteries, only to recover the charge lost during normal starting.
Which MVs have the manufacturer's logo showing on the front of the vehicle, not just on the data plate?
Just curious, it seems like the newer trucks come with the name highly visible, Oshkosh, S&S and foreign ones. Were there restrictions in the past?
Hewitt Industries, like the boost gauge and thermocouples.
The boost gauge has an LED light and the EGT a standard incandescent. Both dim when voltage is reduced, so the LED must have a special driver built-in. I asked for matching gauges, but they overlooked the lights, so now I have redish for...
What's a good place for the mounting, can the licence plate be mounted on the platform (dromedary) behind the cab?
...never mind, I think I found a spot below the air couplings...
RE: dash redo .....
Yes Leonard, I'm set up for screen printing at home, so it's a matter of making it from scratch then, kind of thought so...thanks everybody.
Asking the experts here, what is the best method to restore this section of the dash? It's an aluminum sheet apparently originally anodized black except for the lettering and the black is now faded...
Dirty everything, from long periods of idle. The people I have communicated with (email) that were trained on these at Ft Sill state that the trucks were mostly just started and sat at idle and not driven hard also born out by the odo and hour mtr, which I have no reason to doubt.
My original...
