    Modeler's Forum

RE: Re: RE: modeler Mike, what is your take on another category (Scale Models), should be a lot easier than drop down menues? :-)

    Exhaust Brake?

Looked in to it one time and don't think it would be as effective (limited by the max vacuum that could be had, one atmosphere? which would translate into 14 psi), but it would provide for a way to shut down a runaway engine. :-)

Typical DOT code for HMMWV tire

Thanks, I only wanted to confirm that they were made by Goodyear in Topeka, KS.....and that seems to be the case.

    Exhaust Brake?

Okay, very simply, engine braking is a result of resistance to the piston movement. In a gasoline (ignition) type engine, the throttle resists the "sucktion" of air into the combustion chamber, thus creating an "engine brake" effect. The diesel is always wide open (=has no throttle) and there is...

Typical DOT code for HMMWV tire

Looking for tire info, what is the typical DOT code for a Goodyear humvee tire? Sample from TM shown below. Thanks

    WVO site.

I have long since come to the conclusion that there isn't anywhere near enough veggie oil for everybody to use in large percentages and adding 2 to 5 % to the diesel tank does not require it to be converted to biodiesel, saving lots of energy and methanol and also eliminating the glycerine...

FS-2500 Bypass Oil Filter - Great Idea or Snake Oil

Welcome to the site and thanks for the invitation to dieselplace.com! I also believe in the bypass filter system and have one installed on one of my trucks (no real engine hours yet, though). Do you have before and after oil analysis reports? Wonder if trapping wear metal particles in the...

This should help you identify the switch. Any of the dealers will be able to supply you with a new part.

    Cold weather starting my deuce.

RE: Re: RE: Cold weather starting my deuce. Interesting, I made the assumption based on that I have 4 different tanks, 2 deuce and 2 M52A2 fuel tanks, all having the 9/16" allen plug....

    Prime oil pump on Multifuel?

Re: RE: Prime oil pump on Multifuel? That (anti drainback filters) works if you don't need to preheat the oil in the pan..

    M35A2 Cold Weather Starting problems

I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that does both. A solar powered version of "Chargetek 500" would be nice, I don't see the need for the desulfator when the trucks are used regularily. Some statements about Optima batteries found during a search: "Sulfation of Batteries starts when...

    East Coast Convoy 2008

Any longer trip for me is predicated on the use of veggie oil and the Aberdeen trip is over 900 miles (round trip)...

    Air Compressor Questions

Be fair to the tires, just changing them to radials may not help that much. Also traction is directly proportional to the load on the tires...add cargo. If you really need to drive in the snow and on ice, install chains, they are not outdated.

    M135 CDN Knuckleboom truck?

Figure about 4,000 lb and the cost of a used one, anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 depending on size and condition.

It's IE 6.0, but it doesn't install correctly, I have tried several times, it installs, but with some sections incomplete. Some time before X-mas, I reformatted the hard drive (twice, actually), installed the ME edition and still couldn't get IE to install correctly. Another, probably realted...

    Air Compressor Questions

There is a pressure relief valve on one of the air tanks, it may be frozen in the open position. Water may have been a factor and expansion during the freeze may have opened it. Heat it by grabbing it with your bare hand to warm it up..... An alcohol evaporator should help prevent this kind of...

    Engine Rebuild

Reminds me, if I'm going to drive the deuce any distance again the rod bearings need to be checked......hate that knock, knock....

    Exhaust Brake?

There is always a small amount of engine braking power in the diesel, not much, but you have to keep the engine rpm as high as possible, since there is a multiplier effect. This is why you must keep the road speed low when going downhill. Some long hills have speed limits going down (for trucks)...
