Pay attention to the air restriction indicator by the steering wheel, it's actually a calibrated instrument and will show the amount of vacuum that exists within the filter canister.

I'm very much in favor of using 24 v to 12 v regulators, but for this light a load, simply run a wire from your grounded battery (with proper fuse/switching means of course).
To conclude this thread, the cab was lifted back in place today. Still have a zillion connections to make and hopefully the engine will run now with the hydraulic head fixed.
To make sure that the fuel pressure will not cause the flame heater nozzle to leak when the pump isn't turned on, I added a solenoid valve in the line....

Chris, that's the working principle of the Racor "Crankvent" filter I have. It's mounted high to permit fording without worry (see separate thread).
You could even let it drain back into the crankcase....fumes are recycled via air intake.
