    IP problem for the experts

To summarize what we have so far, the fuel plunger moves up and down by the action of the cam on the main shaft of the IP. It is also rotated by a guide, which according to the manual, will shear if the plunger "freezes" in the bore. All surfaces of the plunger and bore are lapped for a near...

    IP problem for the experts

We are talking about the xm757 8x8, which hasn't been operated since 2001. The fuel now is almost 100% low sulfur diesel with some canola oil (fresh from the store) for lubricity....maybe I need more veggie oil. :-) The problem is that the plunger isn't returning to its low position. I put some...

    IP problem for the experts

Background: The governor and associated parts of the IP on the LDS465-2 appeared very sticky a couple of days ago, so I removed the FDC and exrecised all the parts and lubed them liberally. This morning I cranked the engine and it started nicely. The "gas" pedal was very responsive and all...

    More efficient Deuce..?

...and if you are concerned about efficiency from a cost stand point, burn used veggie oil and/or homemade biodiesel.

    Deuce in GL

Yep, pop rivets are an automatic 5,000 miles on the odo.

    More efficient Deuce..?

To follow Kenny's lead, adding a power steering pump would make it less efficient....

    Watermark - Decision

Yes, #7 would be more agreeable, if there must be one at all. Of course, a real watermark should cover the entire image to do any good, I have cropped any number of images to eliminate "watermarks" along the edges.

    Watermark - Decision

Mike, after suggesting it several times, I guess there is no interest, but an answer would be appropriate, how about applying the watermark to images as they are downloaded only and leaving the images on site for clear advertisement free viewing? Downloading in this case, by a visitor or other...

    Downshift or not to downshift?

Go here for details: http://steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=3465&highlight=exhaust+brake For a new one, expect to pay $400-500 (Blue Ox?).

    Watermark - Decision

RE: Re: RE: Watermark - Decision What about the PM, is it necessary to include a watermark on images sent via PM? Example shown below (from Polverone).

    Watermark - Decision

RE: Re: RE: Watermark - Decision Mike, what's wrong with the idea of attaching the watermark only when the image is downloaded? We see it here and know the site without having to have it drummed into our heads every time we view a picture.

    Hiatus

You are right, even the moderators can't read all the posts and I missed this one before bubbling about the watermark thing. Have a great time off, your work is invaluable to many us.

    Downshift or not to downshift?

Well, actually when the throttle is closed, there is resistance to breathing, a vacuum is created, which provides braking power. The diesel has no throttle and there is no resistance to "sucking" air or exhausting unless a valve is added in the exhaust (=exhaust brake). The Jake brake is...

    Hand pre-oiler update

It's an experiment as so many other ones on my trucks. It may or may not stay, there are better pumps and when I can afford it, an electric.

    NEW FEATURE: Image Resizing

Watermarking doesn't keep people from downloading images. Blocking the right-click-save operation will. What right does steelsoldiers.com have in watermarking PS magazine and TM images, for example? The beauty about the internet is the free interchange of information (including images). So we...

    Hand pre-oiler update

It's the crankcase breather valve, it vents permanently to the exhaust pipe and can be pressurized for under water ops. The whole engine is waterproof without preps for fording and swimming. Will, I'll check that, the shut-off lever is also sluggish. Adam, that space is supposed to be for the...

    trans gear ratio math, etc

Kenny, figure about 7% equivalent change in the gear ratios when running on 1100's. It's like going from .79 to .73 in 5th.

    trans gear ratio math, etc

Probably okay empty, but with any kind of load you'll be in 4th a lot not to mention the hills. I have more of a problem with the 3rd to 4th jump.... Keep experimenting, that's what it's all about.

    Hand pre-oiler update

Started the LDS465-2 this morning. I have a sticky governor situation and used the fuel stop lever manually to control rpm. The engine started almost instantly and the oil pressure built up within seconds (ten strokes on the pump before start). However it raced up to 2,000 rpm plus and I could...
