I was finally able to take pictures. One picture is of my front bumper on my M35A2 which is painted with '383' Gillespie brown. The other picture is of my right fron fender/headlight assembly on my M35A3. The colors are vastly different, but don't look very different in the pictures. I took...
You are probably right. I'm going to take some pictures today that may show the difference. The standard '383' brown is much better looking in my opinion than what is on my A3, which looks faded and washed out.
I just picked up an M35A3 at Sparta and it has a different color of brown CARC on it than matches Gillespie '383'. Sparta had a lot of A3s on the lot and all had the same color brown as mine, except one, which had the standard '383' brown. The brown on my A3 is much lighter than the standard...
Congratulations on getting your new Deuce. The most important thing is the mechanical condition. Making the Deuce presentable isn't that difficult. If there is a lot of rust you might want to consider getting the Deuce sand blasted or even better, soda blasted. You can make it like new.
My post was a little misleading. I don't have any chains for my A2 or A3. The tire chains I mentioned were from years ago when driving M35s in the Army in Germany. By the way, they are a real pain to put on in freezing weather! In the Army I only put chains on one set of duals in the rear as...
If your mother ever needs help up here, just let me know. I'm about 10 miles northeast of Hiawassee at a fairly high altitude, so we get more snow and usually a lower temperature than in the city. We were supposed to get another 7 - 10 inches of snow, but it didn't come. We are having ice...
I have no experience with the air tanks on my A3. However, when I first picked up my A2, both valves were plugged solid with crud. I used the coat hangar also, and got them both the drain after repeatedly using the coat hangar. It looked like grey mud mixed with small chunks of rust. Both...
We have about 10 inches of snow on ice here. I have a lot of experience driving M35 trucks with conventional NDTs in winter conditions, both in the U.S. and in Germany while stationed with the 3rd Armored Division in 1970-71. I have owned my own M35A2 for over a year now and just recovered a new...
The other extenuating factor is that the tire blew after ~700 miles of continuous driving. The only cooling off period was during refueling. I'm sure this contributed. It would have been much worse in hot weather.
I picked up my M35A2 from Fort Indiantown Gap in August 2009 and it has Interstate U6TLs installed with a date of 2007 on them. So far they are very strong and have not let me down and they are now three years old. I have noticed that since I got my deuce, a few of the cells need more water than...
The tires themselves are branded on the sidewall as maximum 60 psi under full load, cold. The tires likely would do much better with a higher pressure on the highway. I think a significant part of the problem may be the age. As I mentioned earlier, the spare had a manufacture date of 05/88...
I agree that there was extreme heat build-up. However, the CTIS was turned off during the trip. Once I inflated the tires to 45 psi with the CTIS at the start and confirmed the pressure with a tire guage, I turned it off. After the end of the first hour, I checked the tire pressure in all...
