    Ugly Birdsnest on Winch

Duh!!! Thanks Matt!!! I guess I saw "drag winch" and thus assumed it was the wrecker rear, as in M936 - totally missing the 1 ..... WHICH I HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! though mine is an A1 as you know... OK - simply multiply all tool sizes by a factor of 7/8 over 3/4.

    Ugly Birdsnest on Winch

NB. Wrap an oily rag around free cable end before using grippy [Mole-] wrench. Start here then work slack back into drum to manipulate each wrap tangle. You don't have to thread the whole cable free end through - just enough to give you slack at the drum to chase the buried part. Deleted...

    Ugly Birdsnest on Winch

There's something else that has been dropped from the wreckers BII and 'use of' probably not taught any more..... Marline Spikes ... may or may not damage cable, but at this point what else you gonna do? and it won't do as much damage to surrounding (good) cable as hot cutting will.

Findlay OH 2016 Military show. May 20-22nd

Unfortunately I'll have to miss this years sarcasm-fest, hope you all have a great time. Thanks to all of the offers for a lift out there. Knee injury is healing but my client base has taken a big hit so I'll have to save the pennies for a while 'till I can come up with plan B/2 + Plan C. See...

Found out torque wrench is not accurate *after* rear main seal job

Seams like a whole load of fuss. Why not just calibrate it at home. After all you are measuring "foot"-"pounds". Got a tape measure and a shopping bag? Everything from the grocery store has a weight on it (less the tin/jar etc), but loose veggies, or packets of grains/sugar etc., have...

    M816 air lines

Having trouble following your references; 24P - 2 has a fig 387 but not relevant and 34 - 2 doesn't list fig's......? However - There are two controls there #'s 8 and 11 (from the -10 TM, page 2-120) One is for the clutch (engine -transmission) the other is for the rear winch cable...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I've done a rebuild thread for both level winds (which do a wonderful job when working) - they are easy enough to strip and service, even a little modification if appropriate grease fitting is missing. Spare parts will be the issue if you cannot rejuvenate the damage. Though stuff like felt...

    M916A1 Little Stuff

John - where did you pull the 24v for the lamps from? I thought the trucks main (lighting) system was 12...... with only the trailer port on the crossmember (pintle towing) as 24v. Bye the way - I have almost finished my flatbed attachment (PLS type deal for the fifth wheel - ballast platform...

    Lego model

Arrrrgh! LEGO has no plural! - email LEGO USA or pop into the LEGO store Rockefeller center/ LEGOLAND if you like, but that is the honest truth. LEGO describes the bricks. (A bit like deer or sugar) Really cool model though! Hey - it's OK to "Have a Thing" (rant) etc.......

Need advice with parasitic battery drain

NO, you don't need a battery for this test. You are measuring continuity. You are looking for 'clean' circuits that have infinite resistance (1) because they should be switched off and not running to ground (the -ve side) which is the drain you are looking for. Any circuits that have SOME...

Need advice with parasitic battery drain

The only way I have ever found a drain was to remove the batteries altogether, connect the battery cables together -ve to +ve at each battery, pull all the fuses then meter across each fuse holder to see which circuit has continuity - which they shouldn't if everything is "off". Once you have...

    M916 Front tire wear problem

Yup - I lost a front tyre (34K original miles) on my 916A1 last year/'14 going to and from the Sussex NJ and Weare NH events. Found out that I had almost an inch of 'toe in' - got a pair of G-177's and put the toe in back out to only 1/8" and wear since seems acceptable.

    5 Ton HET

Hey Carl - what's with the banjo hole in the cab cill?... or did I miss something in an earlier post.... Was it for lifting the cab into place? Securing antiglare scrim over windscreen? For friends to chain door when you are sleeping inside?

    Gooseneck set up

So you have a civi gooseneck trailer and want to pull it behind your 5-ton...? Depending on the comparison of; trailer weight/truck capacity and heights; hitch adjustment to frame or 5th wheel, there are many options. Pics of your truck/trailer to see above specs would help. If your trailer...

    installing pto

Look at the space on the back side of the teeth that are in contact with each other. That space is back lash and only needs to be "perceptible" to feel. There are plenty of pictures on google - "gears meshing backlash". Good luck.
  19. zebedee

    installing pto

Yes - you are looking to get a 'fit' of the gears that is not 'tight'. There is supposed to be some "backlash" which means a slight gap between the teeth when going from drive to overrun. Too much gap will create noisy operation and premature wear of the teeth and too little gap means friction...

Findlay OH 2016 Military show. May 20-22nd

Didn't your mum tell you it's rude to point? I might not be able to make it this year - axle fires notwithstanding, had MCL/ACL surgery yesterday so doing my own version of the gimp and driving may be out.
