Actually, I hadn't even considered current "Hotel 8's"... I started this thread to get pics of action, not done TO your wrecker like other threads!!! (That's covered in 'Wrecker wishlist of mods' thread.)
More pics next time you use it PLEASE PLEASE!!
How does it compare to the E1...
Sankey Wide Track.
Finally gotten around to putting the new cover on my Sankey 'Wide Track'. Had to remake the 'toggles' since they don't come with the canvas.
..... so hows about changing the drum on the boom winch - which is fluted, single layer only and reeeeeaaaly short on rope - to a smaller diameter thus multi layer capacity, then you can use it (pop off the crane hook), to pull out the drag winch. You can reach the crane levers from the drag...
Even if you could introduce a 'dog' clutch - like the front winches on older trucks - the thickness and therefore "memory" of the cable, the level wind and tensioner bends/radii, would make it impossible to manually pull out the cable.
Larger drag winches on ARV's etc., (3/4, 1" and up) come...
Hmmm - Thanks big'un, I hadn't considered that. I'll give it a look the next time I slap it up there. Some nice compact heavy bolt clamps would be good...
Knocked it up from some plate (3/8"?) and pipe scraps then turned the fab in the lathe to smooth off the weld. It doesn't need to be massively strong and no swiveling to contend with.
I think you'll be able to do this if you want to stiff leg or crane load - but to winch up there from the...
Hey Gimp - yeah, there are a couple on the back but as they were being used for the 2 ton pallet of pellets, I chose for that load of wood to drop down and pick up the pintle. Can't see from the pic but there is some cardboard on the edge under the strap...
Got a low boy job tomorrow.
Yeah the bed height is about 70". I did think about gaining that extra 4" by spreading the long frame rails, but for just 4" that was going to be a lot of cutting and re-gluing.
I too thought about a couple of long tool boxes, though they may have interfered with the rear wheels upon loading...
Thanks - I wanted to make sure it sat nice and level. Actually the bed was given to me free, so I was just giving it a job!
As far as other beds - prob not. I was just using up a free bed and I wanted to keep the tractor absolutely original - not one extra hole, weld or cutout, besides, I...
Finished the detachable flat bed for the Freightliner.
Made from a 1 ton dually short bed that I was given. Had to extend the 'nose' a little and make some filler wedges to allow it to roll up tail roller.
Pulls on with winch just the same as M870 trailer would. Locks into 3 1/2" fifth...
Hey Mike - labour of love - nice to see it coming along. Are you going to reproduce the black/yellow stripes on the outrigger feet/bumper as per delivery pics? Looks a lot like the ones the RAEME had in Viet Nam (Australia army engineers).....
Howard.
Horses n Bulldozers - what else is there to say!
Don't know if they ever had these as 'door art' but I'd like to represent my M916A1 as being from the USAF 819th REDHORSE who were stationed in the sand box when my truck was current inventory. I'd already painted mine sand when I found out...
Red - have you tried to slide apart your new boom support legs yet? I recently tried to get mine apart with the winch + snatch block on my 916A1 and braced to the back of the lowboy - no go. Need to come up with a new, more powerful plan - they have been soaking for 2 years... I think I am...
I'll send you a knob gratis if you have a 1/4 x 20 die or want to weld a 1/4 x 20 bolt to the end of the lever... I have a humungous box of them!
It's nice having a different size knob on the transfer lever so you can tell the difference without looking..
