What have you done to your 10 ton this week?

Don't forget the most important grease point on the truck: the one on the bell crank in the brake linkage between the left frame rail and the left side of the transmission. The foot pedal is remote from the applicator valve mounted on the frame. The linkage contains the aforementioned bell crank...

Firetruck from Winslow Township, NJ to Preston, OK.

The average fire truck is likely geared for 52 miles an hour. Talk to the guys who road run them from Pierce in Appleton, WI to the east coast. Years ago my chief was talking about driving a pumper from NJ to New Orleans for Katrina relief. I assured him the crew would be zombies after 100 miles...

    1987 AM General

Don't make a move without the pubs. Especially the lubrication order. Military HUMVEES have many more grease points than a civilian one. Neglect them at your own peril.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Reference post 69: fuel lines. This is not my first rodeo with M123s either. I served in a unit that had 22ea of them and then owned my own for 10 years after they were sold off. None of them had a fuel distribution system anything like what you describe in your post. The fuel equalizes between...

    1973 M54 or M51???

Reference to post #20: 5tons have PTO on right side of transmission. If no PTO is used an sheet metal cover is used to cover the opening. If the transmission was replaced after a dump body was removed with a plain PTO opening then it would look like it was never there. Another clue would be if...

Trailer from Salem OR to Greenville SC

Most military trailers have inclined ramps behind the fifth wheel to lift up low trailers. Especially when you are relaying a trailer brought to an interchange point with a M 915 which has a 48" high fifth wheel and you are going to run it to the field with a M818 which has a 60" high double...

    1960 CJ-5

Look for the possibility of a fuel filter inside the fuel tank. M 38s have this.

Trailer from Salem OR to Greenville SC

Nick: trailer appears to be a M871 22.5t trailer which has 12 and 24 volt light hookups and common air connections. You moved one for me last year that was empty. The lights are all 12 volt and resistors are provided to knock the 24 volts down to 12. I would guess the one in the picture is about...

    1973 M54 or M51???

If this chassis was repurposed at some point as a dump truck with winch then it would have a unique double ended PTO that would operate the winch and the dump body. Other trucks such as wreckers with front and rear power driven accessories have 2 PTOs, one for each end. Dump trucks occasionally...

What have you done to your 10 ton this week?

On stock tires: 42mph loaded or empty. Ran one into Ft. Dix in 1994 with a M60 tank on top of the trailer on level ground eventually hit 42 mph. That's all.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

Reference post 67: tanks are not the same as the fuel fill is in the front on both sides. Also, as built, a M 123 feeds on the left tank which is where the fuel filters are, and returns into the right tank. Unlike its' 5 ton brethren, the 10 ton has a crossover line to allow the contents of...

    Noob greetings from central Florida

Waited 3 months for a title for a trailer I had to pay for immediately. Covid they said. With the LMTV don't make a move without the pubs: operators manual, organizational maintenance manual and parts book lubrication order. They should be available in the TM section on this site. You have no...

New to 5 ton what is the model of this one

What engine do you have ? If it is a NH250 Fleetguard offers such an adapter as Adaptor Kit #2, N 3300923 Ought to be available either on line someplace or from a big truck dealer or parts house or a Cummins dealer in your area. I got mine from the Cummins dealer in Phoenix.

    1968 Mack M123A1C 10 ton Tank Transporter

The issue which usually makes a M123 over width is the mud guards mounted between the fuel tanks and the intermediate axle. Truck illustrated does not have these mud guards or quarter fenders so with the outside tires removed it may be under 102" wide. I know forward of the fuel tanks it is.

Truck from Jessup Iowa 50648 to Woodburn Oregon

Reference post 3: You had better believe they will find something to fill the space. Reference post 2: I had them move 2 trailers for me, one on the ground and one hauled on a trailer and they were able to find a driver to do it within a couple of days to keep me from paying demurrage charges...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Reference post 506: One rainy day in Vietnam I was waiting by the PX for a ride when up comes a M151 jeep with the top, doors, and side curtains on it. Marked for the ARVN. The door opened and at least 10 Viets climbed out. Jeep: photographed it on Memorial Day.

    Head lights not working

All Army vehicles that have the same circuit, like the light switch to dimmer switch feed # 16 will muse the same circuit number to identify it. As then only difference in the lighting circuits on the common MVs raging from 1/4t to 10t is the length of the wires dictated by then length of the...

    skinny grease gun tips

Post 6 is the way to go for some of these hard to find grease points. Especially U joints. neglect them at your own peril. It really gets dicey if you have one of these little grease joints fail and it becomes necessary to change it out. Sometimes it is simpler to change out the whole u joint...
