M998 rear bumper with tire options

If you can design, prototype and manufacture one for what you consider to be a reasonable price, then go for it. There's a reason your current options aren't cheap.

M998 rear bumper with tire options

Define "reasonably priced". What's unreasonable to you isn't the case for another. I think $1500 for a complete airlift bumper with brackets and a rhino carrier isn't a bad price at all when you break down the cost of all the parts separately. Obviously $1500 is too much for you to spend, so...

    Tire questions

It's not a matter of shredding the sidewall - agreed that it would happen regardless. The runflat does allow you to safely and certainly more easily travel though if you do have a flat tire so that you can get to a safer or more appropriate area to change the tire. It's a lot easier to drive on...

    Tire questions

Why wouldn't you air down to 20psi? The standard M998 tire spec is darn close to that, so I don't see why you wouldn't. As for removing the run flat, they aren't hurting anything by leaving them in, so why bother - they're still capable of being balanced. Having the run flat is also of benefit...

    Tire questions

Are they not balancing them because they're dry rotted or because they're too big? Most shops won't touch them if they're starting to dry rot, in which case do what you know you need to do and replace them. If it's because they're too big, ya just need to find the appropriate shop.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Tonight seemed like a beautiful night to drive under the NOD's.

Thank you for your input. Re-read what I wrote - I acknowledged that. I'm not exactly sure what a "grey" title is as it pertains to a Humvee. Those who need to get creative to get a title get what they get. There are others who followed the procedures though and their state reconsidered -...

Actually, as someone in a moderator/administrator position, you should be holding yourself to a higher standard. Fact is, I don't disagree that registering and titling are problematic from state to state. Fact is, while the disposition code could at some point be changed again, there is no...

While states may refuse to title and the DLA could change the disposition code again, I sincerely doubt that any will ever be taken back. The government wants them gone as much as there is a demand for them. The disposition code wasn't changed just because someone in the government cared about...

Did you even look at the thread? That's what he's telling you. Post the information in that thread and you'll get your answer. While it's not a true 17 digit VIN, the 6 digit serial number effectively becomes the VIN when you register it.

    Engine identification

Congratulations, maybe buy a lottery ticket as more often than not, it's found not to match. Again, ya probably shouldn't necessarily rely on it to verify the data plate number, unless you get lucky.

    Engine identification

That's an internal identification number that AMG uses and has no correlation to the number on the data plate for purposes of validating vehicle data plate number. If you're lucky, the number may be close, but frequently they aren't.

    Bad News Georgia HMMWV Owners

While I think the thread has run its course, I suggest that shutting out the subject entirely isn't the right approach either. This was probably the first time that the elephent in the room has been more thorougjly discussed here than before. While there was some bickering, there was a lot of...

    Bad News Georgia HMMWV Owners

They aren't out of business and are still making HMMWV's - they also still show up to all of the major military trade shows to promote it.

    Bad News Georgia HMMWV Owners

Because in GA they do not title off-road vehicles. I know there is a difference, but in the case of here in GA - you can't register a vehicle without a title, so in GA they go hand in hand. The 1 exemption to this is vehicles they consider to be antiques, which even the earliest of HMMWV's...

    Bad News Georgia HMMWV Owners

I PM'd him the other day when he originally posted this. He said that he titled the vehicle with the off-road stamped SF97 and that he did this in October/November timeframe. I know of 1 other person here in GA who received a similar letter last year - he had successfully convinced his tag...

Good / Bad Comments About HMMWV's??

That's not a bad idea, but I suppose that if the law got involved, that's why you'd have a Registration and Insurance Card plus a Tag. The preponderance of the evidence would certainly be on your side. I haven't got around to marking up my vehicle just yet though, so it was essentially naked and...

Good / Bad Comments About HMMWV's??

I've certainly felt your pain, but those days are long behind me. The Hi-Back seat actually does make a world of difference though - it's no Cadillac, but it's definitely better than the equivalent of a stadium seat.
