You don't need to be a "wrench" for basic maintenance tasks like changing brake pads. That's why there are TM's. They're written so that 18 year old kids can do this stuff - and sometimes not the brightest ones at that.
I'm not much of a wrench, but with a TM I've been able to do just about...
Thank you for the insightful comment. I've also read several times throughout this thread of where people had issues with soft paint, or paint running if rained on, etc before curing. It's a question worth asking.
TobyS - 33446, the paint code on the can is 695613179396.
I painted the GMV this weekend using Desert Tan Behr Ultra Premium. I'm very impressed with how the stuff went down - I only had to water it down a little bit. Question for those of you that have done it before - how long do you let it sit before you feel comfortable letting it get rained on? I...
I've got to agree with Blk Hmmwv here. Just because YOU think the prices are ridiculous really means nothing. The market has dictated what the price is on the components you seek - the supply is limited and demand is high. The situation isn't likely to get better, therefore the pricing is rather...
I normally don't visit this forum very much, but I'm helping a buddy with mounting troop seats in the CUCV that he just finished restoring. We're having the hardest time finding the goofy clamps that hold the troop seats in place.
Does anybody have a source for where to find the clamps, or...
Which one? There's the old school medium tow bar and then there are the lightweight Ibis Tek ones, which I believe have 2 different types mounting.
I've got an Ibis Tek version but I won't be able to get any pics until this weekend.
Unless the demil code changes, then they'll get chopped up and destroyed. As it stands at the moment after the Ferguson riots and people whining about the militarization of police, even LE agencies aren't getting the armored stuff anymore - that's to include armament carriers (but not...
Do you have any idea what it costs to develop a military specific vehicle from the ground-up, develop a spare parts and maintenence program and administrate a military contract???
That was my experience when I was in 15 years ago. We were going to use diesel fuel before a battalion commanders inspection to freshen up the look. The motor pool SNCOIC, was very quick to remind everyone that doing so was unauthorized. I'd guess it's no different now. Then again, we did use...
Reminds me of a line from Kevin Nealon in the movie Joe Dirt. "We're running a business, not a charity. Maybe if UNICEF gets into the auction business, you can buy a truck for $1200, but it ain't gonna be a humvee"
Looks good, but they don't appear to offer enough protection for keeping debris from being kicked up. I believe that most states require 6-8" from the ground or enough protection to keep degree from being thrown back at a certain predetermined angle. I suppose it's better than nothing at all...
This is all AM General Imagery. I'm seeing black undercarriages and tan sling loops on the hood. I imagine that things can't be that far off for delivery to the .mil:
Maybe that is dependent on the location? I'm aware of more than several M1152's here on the east coast for instance that were obviously green at one time, but are very much tan in and out now. They've got event worse paint jobs as anything I've ever seen coming out of the auctions too.
