I drove my GMV to a local Sonic for a milkshake the other day prior to visiting a family friend. When we pulled in, my son commented about how there were a couple of "Army men" sitting in the dining area outside, which I noted. When I pulled up to one of the order kiosks, I noticed from around...
Kinda like gcbennet, my experiences have been very similar. Lots of waves and thumbs-up. I have had one guy offer to buy mine as well.
I've never had anything negative - not even a gripe about mileage or being a "gas guzzler".
In all fairness to what Tomcat posted, I would say that what was mentioned was more of a safety issue than anything.

I put the BFG Baja's on and installed my Lightforce Lights on the GMV this weekend.
I also installed my "center console" - a painted Coke crate with my modified ammo can.
No worries at all. I've done my time as well and have seen all sorts of stupid things during the course of my enlistment. The fact that you did 20 should mean that you've seen considerably more stupid stuff.
Someone put a note on it regarding a revised capacity versus actually being concerned...
This weekend a friend and I attempted to knock out a portion of the "GA Traverse". It's an interconnecting network of forest service and logging roads about 400 miles long that crosses north GA. It starts near Seneca, SC and ends just over the Alabama/GA line. This trip was straight-up awesome...
That "little piece of metal" supports the weight of the turret and allows you to mount the various hardware to it, so it's kinda critical.
I've seen them cheaper on ebay frequently......
