the Chinese used to knock them off and only put the MS number on them, they were devoid of cage codes and other US company marking, even the NSN, now? They don’t give a s**t, I’ve seen chinese WS washer assy’s that even copy the cage codes…i only Try to use CARC painted and easily identifiable...
No idea, but most sold on eBay and from all these hmmwv parts sellers are Chinese knock off, the only way to tell for sure On the 3 lever switch is the paint “CARC” and proper stencil of Date, cage code and date, anything else is aftermarket.

First off, your generator has a soft start feature, it does not go to full charging in 2 seconds, it can be as long as 30 second before it settles into the green, its completely norma.
2nd, Dont turn on the AC until until the generator is in the green, the Newer gold label thermostatic flow...
You don’t know very much about diesels but you’re inclined to believe having the wrong pump is ok? alrighty than….
Its not totally uncommon to see the wrong application pump in a hmmwv and it runs…my observation is that of a technical one, my shop would never install that pump on that engine…
correct, 6278 is just a newer pump model, it replaced the 5209…
as far as “what does it mean”? It means you have the wrong pump per the application chart/TM for that motor…what I’ve generally found on the 4879 pump is when used in a 6.2 before 1990 1/2 model engine, is the timing has to be...
Just drive it till it blows…some blow by is just fine, ive seen brand new motors with blow by till they are worn in.
blue smoke is oil…so valve guide seals generally the culprit, once hot and the seal expands, it goes away.
what the timing set at?
may simply be normal, but retarded pump timing, clogged catalytic converter, failing turbo charger…all produce black exhaust.
question is, just how bad is it? These older IDI motors will produce black smoke faintly under load and snapping accelerator.
these aren’t like modern diesel’s of today...
