Ill pm you his contact info.He doesnt go on here anymore for a couple reasons that he can explain. I’ve also had to reach out to him a few times to help with deuce issues.
A nearly exact replacement for the 1988 airforce deuce is the Dorman M39477. It will be the same with the only exceptions being the reservoir will be labeled Dot3 (but dot 5 can be used since seals are EPDM), it will have slits in the reservoir cap seals to act as the breather, and it wont have...
I dont think you need to use a shaft/spindle of the same diameter of the bearing ID for this purpose. You could probably use any shaft smaller than the bearing id that has the strength to support the wheel, even a square tube. The bearings need to mount to the hub concetrically, but the id just...
Could you just use the existing timken bearings if you clean them well and use a light oil or wd40 instead of grease? …. Nevermind, I forget they would want to pop out since they are tapered.
I suppose some open or shielded ball bearings with no grease would be the most free moving. What...
Where did you find the large tire covers? They are a good idea to protect your investment from UV. Id like to find some that would go over 395’s without costing a ton
As a fellow m109box/camper owner, I would agree with everything cbrtodd said. I also chose to rebuild the 109 box since it seemed like it would be easier, but In the long run i am quite sure its more work. If you can handle the initial cost and daunting thought of building a box from scratch, I...
👍, stick with the hardlines as you probably discovered. I’m sure hard lines are superior to any style of flexible line, except for the obvious need of flexibility in some areas. It sure would make install easier if we could use it everywhere, but brakes would probably feel mushy.
I just ran across this thread, thanks for posting your experience installing the larger compressor DB556. I actually bought one of these a few years ago and besides getting some manifolds for it and painting it green, I have never finished the project... Perhaps after reading this, I never will...
I’m wondering if anyone can post a picture or point me to the correct TM that shows how the slobber tube should be routed?
I suspect mine is too short and it points directly onto the front brake hose.
I believe these are supposed to be longer, but am not sure how they would be without...
I dont have an answer to your question but have heard of some folks coating the inside of the tanks with something (dont recall what) that is intended for this. Also the m35a3 trucks have aluminum fuel tanks so you could always look for one of them.
Has anyone heard from Rustystud (Greg) lately? I sent him a PM and email, then noticed he hadn't been on the site since March. I also called a landline number I had from him a few years ago but its been disconnected. At this point I'm just wondering if he is OK or not.
If anyone has his...
the original 88 air force trucks had the 60/40 split (the Dorman M39477 does also). you are probably ok going with the larger front cylinders still, but a 50/50 split would probably be better, and a good time to switch to the more normal sized line fittings.
If you ever plan to use your truck at a campground, you may want to read my lesson learned here on dealing with GFCI electrical outlets

oh, and i agree with others comments on rust. May as well deal...
Oh, and if you want a nearly exact replacement for the 1988 airforce deuce, then get the Dorman M39477. It will be the same with the onky exceptions being the reservoir will be labeled Dot3 (but dot 5 can be used since seals are EPDM), it will have slits in the reservoir cap seals to act as the...
As far as i know, the MK1624 kit is the proper one. However you can often get new master cylinders for under $200. Assuming you have the bracket from a dual circuit air force truck or a modified one from an A3 truck, you can use one of the master cylinders i have listed at the bottom. They would...
