fatstring, Just "freehand". Thanks for the compliment. We build desert trucks, so we get a lot of practice. The credit really needs to go to my Friend Jono, he has what I call "God-hands". lol We started out with notchers, grinders, and chopsaws. Now we put hydraulic to the bender, Jono has...

    Reading parts for the upgrade

Wheel spacers (2"iirc) or DRW hubs up front to clear the HMMWV rims, and make sure you use grade 8 and stover nuts on all the suspension. Do NOT use F9-11 hardware as it has more tensile strength, but is more likely to snap compared to grade 8. Best wishes and post pics! Dave

    1984 CUCV M1009 build thread

I just went to Barstow this weekend for the Balls Out 250 race, and I got 19/20 there and back. The roll cage has added weight of course, and I still don't think this thing is running 100% flawless. I am new to diesels, but I think it needs the equilvalence of a gas-tune up. I have replaced...

    When the spare goes too...

Hey guys, As some of you know, we race desert and then do many trails in our 4x4s. We carry rawhides for punctures, I carry the large bottle of slime in my tool box, and then of course starting fluid. I did not see any one mention the starting fluid yet, but when a bead comes off, we spray a...

Wait to drive - how long ?

All above is correct. Oil is the blood of these things, and the tolerances change from cold to warm, so of course, the more you let it warms up, the better. I usually start my trucks, get situated with my sunglasses, or type in GPS location, get my drink in the cupholder, think about my to-do...

    Exciter Wire Question

Among all these other items, make sure you thoroughly check all your grounds. Even if they look good, take them apart, sand, a(I apply dialectic grease) and re-install. Grounds cause many problems. Not saying this is a ground issue, but at least it would be PM. Best wishes, Dave

    Alternator 1 not getting excited

Warthog, Thanks, I will do this. I bought the 27si heavy duty repair kit. I called ASP and spoke to Steve, told him I had the MV 6.2 and he said, "Yea, a lot of the guys from SS buy from me," I told him that's where I learned about him. Nice guy. Here's the link for you and SsgtCampbell77's...

    Alternator 1 not getting excited

PropDr, It is possible they could have given me two 24v regs. I did not ohm the windings whilr I had it apart. The alternator looks very new also. (Which I know don't mean Jack) I put all new parts in them. THey are Delco 27si. New regulators, capacitors, brushes, the whole kit and kaboodle...

    Alternator 1 not getting excited

Ok, I read all the Gen 1 threads. But I need some clarification. My Gen 1 light stays on. My heater usually makes the fuse blow. I checked grounds, must be a shorted blower motor like in the other thread. I bought two rebuild kits from ASP, rebuilt the alternators today. I get 23/24 from...
