What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

No replacement parts. OK to bypass, just might lock rears more, especially in panic stops, and when wet Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Most states can have more laws over DOT regulations as well, I know several states have the no re-treads/caps on steer axles of trucks over 26,000GVW, or busses. In any case, it is wise to not use retreads, particularly if they are older then 5 years. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I think you said Dodge NV4500? If so you may want to verify it has the upgraded fifth gear nut. While it tends to be a problem only on the HD 4500 (with the larger input, used behind Cummins motors) all the Dodge 4500 had incorrect spline geometry on the fifth gear, causing walking and eventual...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I believe if you jump the terminals, that should light the dash light. If not, then it could be the bulb itself, I just did this in my truck, was working one day, not the next, thought was the switch, so put a new one in, turns out bulb just happened to burn out. Sent from my SM-S920L using...

Check glowplugs, remove, apply power and see how they react. Correct ohms does not always mean it's good. A compression check could say something too. Weak injectors, or weak injection pump could also be a factor. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

What did you do to your deuce this week?

The M543 was also a 5 ton wrecker, but I believe the only difference was boom manufacture, I've always been told the 543 used a GarWood wrecker, the M62 was some other manufacture. I could be wrong though. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

FYI, all gm trucks from 1985 used an electric washer pump mounted to the washer fluid reservoir mounted to the drivers fender. They also used the wiper arms with the nozzles in them-not all models though, my 1991 GMT400 series still used the nozzles mounted in the cowl. The connector still needs...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

You should unbolt the torque converter from engine, and remove with the transmission. Install the transmission with the torque converter installed in the transmission, not on the engine. You are also more likely to damage the seal when installing then removing. Sent from my SM-S920L using...

And EGT gauge should be installed to verify all is good, it's not just about boost values. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

    Water Pump Question

To take apart and put back together, I can do in 4 hours, to just put together, 2hrs tops, this is on a regular truck, but not that different, space is just a little more cramped. to loose a gear on the injection pump is bull, they probably forgot to put it on-assuming they did it right and...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

What I do, is when the shafts is in like that,, push down on the end, this lifts the splined part, then I push and slowly lower, it should drop in and you can rotate to make the splines line up. Never had a problem doing it that way... Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Registering a deuce in NH and I don’t have a title

Be careful here, as it is the gross vehicle weight that must be under 18,000lbs, the curb weight (unloaded, no passengers) is only about 13,000lbs, that means if you register it under 18,000, technically you can never haul the full GVWR (gross vehicle weight Rating) which is roughly 23,000lbs...

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

It would be the easiest way to retain the dual gen setup if you swap the IP, coolant crossover and front accessories and brackets. You'll need to swap waterpumps as well, v-belt rotates ccw, serpentine rotates cw....or maybe its the other way, can never remember. Sent from my SM-S920L using...

    M105 info

Yeah I'm going to have to get a new nut as well, the little turrets on the end the cotter pins go between are broken off in some places. But it's making a decent storage trailer right now, I don't figure on doing anything to it this year, next year for sure. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

    M105 info

With the two silver washers the PO put on, the nut is right at the end, so you can't see the threads in the pictures. The nut itself is marked up, it looks like some one had a pipe wrench on it at some point. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

Oh, I also think GEP also cast a 506, and some of theirs don't have date stamps, they are in the same category as a navistar, superior to a GM cast. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

There's a lot of debate on actual hp and tq ratings, because they list it at a certain rpm. The military is a J-code (no emissions) an '84 civilian j-code was rated at 155hp back in the day, so figure the cucv was rated close to the same. A c-code (emissions) was rated between 120 and 135 hp...

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

Your right, I forgot navistar kept the 506 casting number, anything after a 2001 date code should be navistar and good. Sent from my SM-S920L using Tapatalk

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

Oh, I also see it has an electronic injection pump, so you would need another injection pump, a 6.2 pump will work, but at that point it's just a glorified 6.2 and the dual thermostat housing and most likely the whole accesory/serpentine system would need to be replace with the 6.2 v-belt...

Is this 6.5 worth my time and money?

97 is the really bad year, unfortunately the only way to tell if it's good is to take the oil pan off and check. I do have a 506, 1997 6.5 turbo diesel in my '85 GMC 1/2 ton, that had a crack free bottom end with 126,xxx miles on it. The thing with the 506 blocks is they added piston squirters...
