Do what you want but dont pull it in reverse low. (beleive it or not Ive seen many many people try to pull stuff out by using reverse, always a bad idea)
I believe that's what he was asking. If you put the jumper cables on the same terminals the slave cables hook to you should be good. (As long as the last guy to put batteries in wired them in correctly). Use the heaviest jumper cables you can find. I've seen some pretty small gauge jumpers...

tighten the cable just enough to keep it from jumping off the pully yet not cause the brakes to drag. Also dont slap the handle up (off) with alot of force, raise them in a controled manner.

If you just pull the pin and let the leg swing free it will go past the locking hole and allow the pin to drop in behind where it is supposed to. ( that would let the leg look like it does in pic #4 in 3dAngus post)
If you have a "people personality" start asking around at any of the local volunteer fire deptartments that use surplus MV's. Most of them that had an M715 at some point probably removed the tailgate and tossed it in the corner of the barn. That's how I got the tailgate for the M715 that I used...
I know what your saying. What I should say is I'm a firm believer in stand your ground. If you lost and got pushed out then you didn't have a very good defense.
