Jack up a wheel and try to move the top of it in and out. If it wobbles at all, it's time to pull the hub and visually inspect the bearings and races.
Click on the recources tab at the top of the page and go through the tm's. It's a good idea to download every one that pertains to your truck...
It's usually quite a sight for those that aren't around this stuff all the time, but this year should be pretty spectacularrrrrr.
I say bring all the mogs you can round up. And the jeeps will make nice wheel chocks! I just wish I could have the flattie ready in time. (Not gonna happen.)
I'm not sure I'd agree with the 5 tons sticking easier than a deuce. At least it doesn't happen that way in my experience.
It could be that I'm a little more cautious with my nice 818 than my old trail deuce, though.
Better not let that sneak into the beer fund!
Looks like a fine job there, stretch. It's probably about time for my trail truck to get the same treatment.
The first thing I would do is look for some manuals or a knowledgable person that'll tell you if a pinz can even be flat towed. It might be as smple as putting the t-case in neutral and taking off, or you might need to pull the drive shafts and drag link, and have a voodoo witch doctor peform a...
Looks like a nice one. Follow the pickup procedures here on the site, and you shouldn't have any trouble. But I'll say good luck, anyway. We always seem to need it!
Here's the way I always do it.
Get the EUC taken care of.
Set up a time to pick the truck up.
Get insurance on the truck.
Do ALL your pm's and drive the truck home.
Send in the SF97 and wait for the title to come back. (My last two took almost 3 months)
Get your plates.
As far as I know, you...
I don't know how a pinz would do on a towbar. If you're nervous about it you could either use an equipment trailer, or stick a reciever hitch on your 109 and pull a properly sized car trailer. The car trailer option would surely be lighter and might slow you down a little less on the hills. Plus...
Stretch, they open the place once a month to jeeps and stuff, then have a weekend for just ATV's, and another for... Well, other stuff. It's a private hunt club, and I'm looking to hold the 715 zone field exercise there. As far as I know, this will be the first time they've had 6x6 trucks on the...
Thanks for the well wishes. I'll be checking in with the doc pretty soon to try to knock this bug out. I'm sick of it.
And adventure is part of the game when you're both dumb and stubborn. I share those qualities in equal measure, and while I can't speak for gimp, he's well on his way!
At one point, gimp was ready to trade it for a small scooter. Think of that scene from "Dumb and Dumber"...
Both wheel bearings and races were trashed, but only the inner came apart. It made for some funny steering issues. Poor gimp has some work ahead of him with that truck, I'm afraid. On...
The s250 might fit on the tailgate if you have enough of that crack to go around. Just a note for future reference... TM's and tape measaures compliment each other nicely!
Seriously though, it was great to meet everyone, and I'm sorry I wasn't 100%. I was sick thursday and left for gimp's on...
Ugh. I just got back to the shack about an hour ago. The doggie was very happy to see me. :-D
Gimp, I hate you and all that... When did you say we were going back to NC? I'll be there!
I'm still too tired to write anything about this big goat rope, but I do have pics.
I didn't look for a part number on my flywheel before installing it. My understanding is there is a solid unit, and a dual-mass unit. Everyone I talked to said to stay away from the dual mass flywheel because they like to come apart.
I did have a little bellhousing/starter clearance issue that...
