I downloaded the TACOM data sheets out of the manuals section the other day because I had a similar wheelbase question. There's a load of info and measuremeents in there, and lots of cool line drawings.
It's a pretty big file, though. I never could get it while I was on dialup.
So you should be recommending an armor towbar for this guy eh? ;-) Point well taken.
Both of my towbars are the non-reinforced type, and I tend to baby them a little. I won't even back up the little 715 when it's on the 'bar.
I've seen them mounted several ways.
Bolted to the cowl in front of the pass. windsield, glued to the fender, stuck to the lower corner inside the windshield, just hanging out the windshield, bolted to the hard top, etc...
The spot that looks the cleanest is on the cowl. Up on the hard top is...
Gotcha.
And that scissor lift thing will be coming off the top of the M116 pretty soon, too.
And the 5 ton tires...
I need a semi trailer to bring all your junk down to cinci!
I used to get bummed when t shirts weren't available. Right now I'm just happy to get a chance to wheel the big iron. If someone were to take the initiative and have some nice shirts printed up, I'd likely be on board.
When we show up on wednesday, the place is pretty dead. All we'll have to...
Sorry to hijack, and I don't mean to ruffle feathers, but I've seen reinforced towbars all twisted up and shattered, too. I'm sure you treat your stuff with proper respect. I guess this is just to point out to the newer folks that those reinforcing collars don't make a tow bar bomb proof.
I have one of those motorized wheelchair lifts that does what you want on a smaller scale. (And it's only 12v) You might be able to strip it down and use the parts to build something heavier. Or at the least, look it over and model your full size version off it.
Can't find a pic right now.
You won't have a problem wth brakes. This type of setup won't apply the brakes without air.
Oh, if you do a quick search, you'll find all kinds of good info. There have been a lot of 105 recovery questions asked lately.
I appreciate it, Tim. I'll need all the help I can get!
How often do you and Steve get together? I might be in the market for some bits off your parts 818 if the logistics can be worked out.
I wonder how well that piggyback contraption would work on a 5 ton tractor. I've been thinking about building one since I first saw those pics.
The 2 1/2 ton tractor will be going to it's loving home. He promised to paint it and take good care of it. (I already tried to talk him out of it)...
It's very unlikely I'll be flat towing the little tractor that distance. In fact, the tires on the 275 are the main reason it hasn't been driven down there itself. And depending on how the final plan works out, there could be a mini convoy with both trucks making the run.
If I could afford to...
Well it looks like I've completely lost my marbles. Sometime in the near future I'll be driving kwai's deuce fuel tanker from Zanesville to Houston. It's a really nice truck, and once I go through and do some pm's I'll be pretty confident. It did really well on the trip from Wright Pat to the...
