Here is a link to my snorkel build that has some part numbers for the pieces to buy: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?108671-PEASHOOTER-s-M109A3-CAMPER-Build-Thread&p=1376667&viewfull=1#post1376667
I downsized from my previous WMO filter last year which can be seen HERE. I needed a bit more room in the garage and just didn't need the larger filter setup that had the 55 gallon drum.
I was given a Lincoln 3601 Pressurized oil drain pan (probably an exact copy of the Harbor Freight 20g...
I contacted Telma since I like this idea. Unfortunately they start at $4500.
I think I will try a hydraulic emergency brake handle. That way if there was ever an "Oh Crap" moment with loss of service brakes, I could just pull this thing to engage the pinion brakes, pull the stock parking...
I think I'm going to try making a "last resort" brake and I'll see how it works. I'm thinking 2x rotors (12") with 2 calipers each. Both rotors mounted to the center axle's pinion. If it works and ever gets used, then replacement rotors should be all that's required.
Maybe you could but what's your reason? I think we must all have different goals for pinion brakes, my goal would be to have a last resort emergency brake as simple to install and $500 or less....dot approval not important since its emergency/parking use only.
Thanks Greg, I just shot them an email for some rough pricing. Maybe I'll call this Mico company also, they are 2 hours away from me and perhaps could offer some suggestions. https://www.mico.com
Boyce sells a pinion kit for $300ish right so I'm sure you can easily get a caliper and disc for under $100, a hydraulic handle like below for $100 and someone to make some laser cut weldment (if it can't be flat stock) brackets.
Welldigger, Why do people use Mazda brakes? Do they just...
The only advantage of dual circuit brakes is in the one event that a catastrophic failure of a circuit happens. Everything else about dual circuits is a disadvantage in my mind. I don't feel like they stop as well as the single circuit trucks, they have higher & more difficult maintenance, added...
I've got dual circuit brakes already but most folks don't. I'm sure most people would love to have them but they are expensive and difficult to install/retrofit. I think lots of people would be interested if there was a simple system under $500 and easy to install, that could stop the truck if...
I've wondered about just having a pinion brake (with a separate pedal or hand lever) to use as a last resort emergency brake in case of a hydraulic system brake failure (ruptured hose or something).
Would 1 pinion brake on the front axle (assuming no lockout hubs) or center axle be enough to...
Hey Jerry. Its only been a couple years since I started the m109 conversion but my kids no longer take naps (although they should sometimes), so I get nearly nothing done these days it feels like.
I never did do anymore with the trailer in regards to adding the 395's. I still have the...
I'm not sure on the torque specs here. I know the various mrap wheels have different specs (mine are in the 400 ft/lb range I think), the adapters I make use 1-8 bolts that have a torque call out of 650-900 ft/lbs depending if its grade 5 or 8 and that doesn't even factor in the locknuts (I just...
+1 for the inverter generator. Its what I ended up going with for running the AC and other electric in my camper while driving. It still isn't cheap but the inverter generators are smaller, have cleaner power and can be used for more remote camping, and backup power for your house & other uses...
Bump on this thread for Archmark. Looks like the OP hasn't been on since 2011. Did anyone else ever get the contact info of the window man (not sure how you contact an amish guy?)
Here is a post from a few years back of someone who had some replacement windows made that look pretty good http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?39801-New-windows-for-the-M109-NICE!&p=439187&viewfull=1#post439187
Post 24 HERE might help you with repairing/rebuilding your windows if that...
Exactly Valence, the bottom thing is a muffler for the reasons you mentioned.... and being paranoid that the bottom muffler could plug with crud I also added a hooded vent to the top of the manifold (http://www.mcmaster.com/#36635K38). I thought someday I may plumb this breather vent manifold...
My 88 duece's long style airpack a had these cone things in them to help center the springs also. A few of the rebuild kit parts didn't fit either like the gasket between the back cap and the air cyl body. There must have been a few small differences in the newer of the old long style airpaks.
Here is a link to a member who had a "mobile media blaster" come out and wet blast the whole truck in 2 hours. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?122421-Deuce-re-paint-add-winch-super-single-power-steering-with-pictures!!!&p=1529911&viewfull=1#post1529911
