GM factory manuals say to check rotational resistance with a beam torque wrench or similiar, then when putting back together exceed the previous by 1-5 inch pounds, it's worked for me so far, but I've only ever touched 2 axles.

Do add to this, remove glowplugs-much easier on engine and starter. Plus when it starts to mist you'll know fuel is at the injectors.

I've seen a couple come apart, most were oil covered, there was only one where the HB was dry and the ring was spinning around the outside. I think there are lots of variables at play, so routine checking (every oil change?)won't hurt nothing.
PS, most of the HBs I've seen fail were on later...

I've found lots of kits are made for the lighter 350 motors, the extra mass of the 6.2 tends to wear out the front springs faster. Tuff country somewhat recognized this and recommends the HD springs only for diesels. (Just giving an example, not promoting, nor have I used them.)

I've rarely seen perfect fitting straps, genuine straps from gm are the best, but I think it was $10 for just a strap, and that was on a little 10 bolt axle.

Replaced my speedo cable, the transfer case end broke free of the cable itself and was just free spinning. Only took me an hour to get all tools, inspect the old cable and install new one.
