waste gate is built into the turbine housing, so definitely NOT a GM-8. GM-6 was the center mount turbo used in vans, so my above post was incorrect, the GM-4 was used 94-96, gm-1 and gm-3 were used 92-94(years overlap for small design differences)

You might have a gm3 or gm4 turbo, both had mechanical(spring) actuated waste gate controllers, any turbo that came with the electronic injection pump used a vacuum pot to control the waste gate, no vacuum no boost, his being a 97 had the vacuum pot.

Wait! It could be brake fluid, and if it is, it could mean no brakes, double check brake fluid level carefully, if one wheel cylinder fails, you'll have no brakes.

700r4 has 27 spline output shaft, TH400 has 32 spline output, so transfer cases are not swappable, also 700r4 is about 1 inch shorter then TH400
