why so much hate on 6.2 ?

Dhawks, Let me say welcome. I have owned 6.2's and 6.5's since the early 90's. I have a 82 6.2 in a K2500 that has givin me good service for over 20 years. If you treat them well, never over heat them and keep the oil changed it will last. Yes they have been known to cause trouble. But a well...

to turbo or not to turbo

86Humv, If my 6.2 turns out to be a boat anchor I'll be in touch about those heads. I thinking I'd just like to keep it N/A. Wire Fox. Thanks for the info. I don't ford often with my trucks but I have needed to after hurricanes. It's nice to have it when needed.

to turbo or not to turbo

Hey Tim, Long time no see. Done any flying lately? Yea I'm leaning tward just swapping in the 6.2. The appeal was having a brand new engine with zero miles and probably never having to worry about it in my lifetime. I'm going to pull the oil pan on the 6.2 I have on the stand and look for...

    Six Blade 20" Fan

I have purchased many parts over the years from Kennedy. But he is up in Wisconson and Not in 100+ deg temps towing heavy loads. He prefers 195 thermostats. I can understand that, being that far north. When the clutch fully engages A bigger fan with more blades will move more air. I swapped to...

to turbo or not to turbo

My cheapest route is to swap in the 6.2 from a CUCV I already have. I already have a spare engine gasket kit. I can swap the Humvee parts on to the long block in just a few hours. I'm searching for exaust and intake parts for the turbo engine to do this swap If I decide to go this route. If I...

to turbo or not to turbo

I'm not computer savy enough to make links. It's in the classified section under parts for sale. should be on the first page.

to turbo or not to turbo

Erasedhamer, I have a complete turbo set up for sale in the classified section. ARI, Is the engine NOS? Jake, No the engine isn't local. I've searched some pics online. It looks like the intake to head bolts are at a different angle. Or maybe there is something I can't see in pics. Does...

to turbo or not to turbo

I'd like to keep it somewhat period correct. Yes I know the manifolds are different. But I thought the heads have a different angle on the intake side and so the N/A intake manifold won't work. Is this correct? If not I'll put the N/A parts on and make a "detuned"6.5.

to turbo or not to turbo

I picked up a 998 with a bad 6.2. I have a spare 6.2 on a stand from a CUVC that I can put the Humvee parts on and get it up and running. I have the chance to get a GEP 6.5 with a turbo. I wanted to just strip it to the long block and put the N/A parts on and go. But I realized the heads were...

    Six Blade 20" Fan

I haven't noticed it being really louder. You can tell when the clutch locks up though. My 82 GMC came from the factory with a 20 inch 7 blade fan like this one in the pic. The clearance is not a issue. It has not rubbed at all even when hauling firewood off road.

Removing rear shims to get the tires to ride vertical? Good idea?

That does look pretty sweet. How long did it take you?

    Six Blade 20" Fan

I measured it at 19 inches. Here is a pic of the 20 inch 6 blade on my M1028. As you can see there is plenty of clearance with the shroud. It doesn't rub off road either.

Removing rear shims to get the tires to ride vertical? Good idea?

You can take a framing square against the hub and a flat surface (concrete) to get it square to the ground. This will take the guess work out. Don't forget to check the "toe-in" when you are done. When you move the top a-arms in the tires will point out a little. Resulting in increased rear tire...

    NP 208 transfer case brace

I read a few years back this rod is there because when the front suspension bottoms out, the slip yoke on the front drive shaft also bottoms out. This pushes the transfer case to the rear and breaks the transfer case to transmission adaptor. This is not the case on all GM trucks and so some came...

    CUCV Radiator recommendation

Yes It is a direct bolt up. The engine oil cooler and tranny cooler lines fit perfect. They ordered it for a 86 chevy K30 with a 6.2.

    CUCV Radiator recommendation

I can't remember the name. It's a small independent shop. It is on Spring-Cypress RD just west of SH249. I will try to get the number for you. I gave $300 for it. They ordered it and had it the next day.
