I'm swapping heads on a GEP 6.5 before I install it in my 998 and I'm trying to decide what brand of head gaskets to use. I have used FEL-PRO for 20 years with no issues. But with the head/head gasket issues we have I was wondering what others have used. And your results. Now, I know I am going...
The puller I have does not screw into the crankshaft threads. It has a flat plate that goes in the bore of the balancer and pushed on the crankshaft face. On the washer I made, I made the bore big enough to clear the socket. With the step deep enough to let the bolt threads start into the...
I'm surprised it does not come with a new bolt. The stock replacement HB comes with a new bolt. The bolt is not long enough to be used to press the new balancer on. You will have to tap in on a ways before you can finish pulling it on with the bolt. I don't like hitting a crankshaft my self...
Rare Electrical.com in the Military section? If you can't match the numbers there. Call them. They have been pretty helpful to me in the past. Any local alt/starter shop near by to you? Maybe yours can be rebuilt?
If you have the body off, remove 3 engine mounting bolts. Losen the passenger side rear bolt. lift the front of the engine and swing it to the passenger side. If this isn't a option, you can replace the output shaft seal in place. Remove the pitman arm and using a seal puller pry it out and tap...
Try A good quality gauge and report back. There are high volume/pressure oil pumps on the market that may flood parts that have extra clearance to help bring pressure back up.
But Id bet its the gauge. Also what pressure is your electric lift pump at? I had a electric lift pump that over...
Replace the gauge with a good quality unit like a VDO. If that does not work, replace the oil pump. They are not expensive. Is the oil level high? Does it smell like fuel? The lift pump may be leaking fuel into the crankcase and thinning the oil.
Good to hear. This should take the blown head gasket worries away. I know its hard to tell at 108 outside. But do you think the interior was any cooler?
Scott,
I read they started adding them In 1984. Not long after they went into service. The story I read said they found the problem while loading trucks to go to Europe/Germany. Not all trucks went on RORO ships. They had to unload each truck, then load it on the ship.
Ok Thanks. I have a STE/ICE but measuring fuel pressure is unlikely. I'm going to replace the whole housing with a filter I can get at most Auto Part stores.
Back to the frame braces. They were installed because the frames were bending there, while being lifted with a crane at GVWR to be loaded on ship/trains.
Dez, Get you a Robert Shaw 370-180 thermostat also. You can also get a MR Gasket #4367 Thermostat. It's the same one. They are The balanced sleeve high flow type. With this fan, clutch and thermostat overheating will be a thing of the past.
I have a 82 GMC K2500 with a factory 6.2/SM465 and NP205. I've had it since the 90's There Is a wide jump in ratios between 1st and 2nd. But the 6.2 has enough low end torque that it picks it up pretty well. 2nd and 3rd are pretty close together so I added a banks turbo to help out when towing...
Ok I just went out to the Garage and measured a fan clutch from a 1009 I pulled the engine from. The Bolt circle on that clutch is 3.25. It is a little thinner and smaller than the clutch on my truck. I suggest getting a severe duty clutch for it. I never noticed a difference since I replaced...
