Look just above the rear spring hanger on the driver side front frame, a bit back from where the A2 vin was. Most A3's have the VIN stamped there.
Is there a registration # anywhere? In most cases it was stenciled inside the cab.
Are you using a real pintle hook, or one of those pintle/ball combos?
The combo ones will bind up at unusual angles, and can cause a lot of strees when they pop loose from the bind.
I have a combination auxilary tank and tool box that is going in my 1028, but of course I don't want shiny aluminum in the back.
What the best best way to prep and prime it to ensure the paint sticks?
First question- does it have a valid title that matches the VIN on the data plate?
If so, you are likely legit.
No title means a boatload of problems in most cases, even if it isn't stolen.
The DMV folks are generally clueless as well.
Long story short, once you get your truck in your posession, verify the VIN on the frame, send that number to GL for an SF-97, and then take that to the DMV. In some states the DMV will require they or a LEO verify the VIN since it isn't a...
There will be no state record until they create one. There is no connection between the state level databases and the military system, nor with the SF-97 process.
Whatever VIN is on the SF-97 is what the clearks will have to enter.

About 3 hours to prep, about 2 to mix, spray and clean up.
It was a quick and dirty job, I could have done a lot more with more time, but it looks a damm sight better than it did before.
All in all, not bad. But I did learn that the tractor supply hardener and Majic brand flat tan paint are not compatable- I waited the 30 minutes before painting it suggested and was getting large platters as it was already setting. I drove on anyway, and the paint is rough and very orange...
4-5 year old diesel will still work fine, even more so in a multifuel. Now how long it will work before the filters get clogged due to algae is another story.
