I will tow a trailer home, after a good inspection and knowing I have a spare tire, working lights, and spare bearings.
I will never drive a truck home right off the GL lot. You have no clue what shape the wheel bearings, brakes, or many other componets are in, and you can't do an adequate...
I am debating coming with a load to sell. I have some stuff the WWII Jeep guys will eat up, just not sure if I have enough of it to make it worthwhile.
I can tell you that 2 M101's will fit on a rental car hauler trailer from U-Haul, had to do that when I noticed a wheel bearing that looked bad the night before a scheduled recovery.
Picked up a yet another M-416 trailer today. Seems like feast or famine with these, lately I find a lot.
This one is a 1967 USMC version, and it has a neat cover/cap made from heavy galvanized steel. The steel has a stamp that looks like it was made in 75, so I am betting that it was made...
I just picked up a nice military trailer mounted, diesel powered compressor. Specs say 15cfm at 175psi, but the same comepressor in civilian service is often sold as a 20cfm, so it may do better than 15.
Of course that means I need a sandblaster!
What do you guys like? I need to keep it $600...
I did some more looking- the SN right before and right after are both 1970, and the reg. # goes in proper sequence also, so pretty safe bet it is a 1970.
Found some more goodies
Standard 4 bolt style pintle hooks.
1 Snatch/block hook for a wrecker boom
Set of bow hardware for a 101 trailer, just add your wood
Complete tarp/bow/sideboard set for a 101 trailer.
Usually when we turn in vehicles anything that isn't required to go with it gets taken off and tossed in the spare stuff bin. Then when Joe loses it from his truck we have spares on hand to cover it.
FWIW guys, while you are at it never use reverse in low range with these trucks, you will destroy the transfer case.
Most trucks should have a lock out now that prevents you from putting it in reverse while in lwo range, but not all units applied the MWO.
The 1008's and 1028's are mostly gone from the system. A few stragglers now and then, but nothing much.
I just sold one here, and may have another one ready in a month or so to sell.
