Cat 3116 potential issues and solutions

I think turning assumptions into facts will be your first order of business. Once you have established what issue (if any) your engine has, you can go from there.

    FMTV/LMTV Steering Play Solved

You mean, you think the wobble stems from a stuck joint? That 'boiling in motor oil' sounds like a really good suggestion.

    Tossing the push button start

I took the starter relay apart and the reason for the push button became evident. I took the starter relay apart and put it under the microscope. As you can see in the photo I posted, the relay became a jumper.

Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

The pouches BTW have been around since at least the Korean war. They were made of canvas originally. They also can be found on eBay.

    Tossing the push button start

You're right, that is pretty cool looking thumbs up In my case it was the opposite. I had the bypass and wanted to fix the (unknown) issue.

    Tossing the push button start

I believe you are right. I did find a ignition switch just laying in the truck (maybe a spare or they replaced the switch already?), so I feared for the worst. But after replacing the Starter relay with one from napa (as it is described in many links here before). I turned the key and was able...

Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

Can you see these tabs? The pouch slides onto that rail on the door. And can you see this snap? The pouch fastens to the door with this snap. And can you see this button? It holds the snap of the pouch to the door. I could make it a bit more clearer to you, but I ran freshly out of crayons.

Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

It's 8x10" and made to fit in the folder holder. Not sure if they are available. But I would think so. You can find pretty much everything on the market. Edit: You can find them on ebay. I am not going list links, because of them being live auctions.

Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

Ha, 'it might fit in there'. guess where I pulled this folder out of?

Mystery Button on FMTV Drivers Door

There is no mystery about that. (Unless you're a civilian) And I believe it is to holds a folder, called the 'equipment record folder' It includes important paperwork , like forms to fill out, in case of an accident (and there are plenty to fill out, if that happens). But what do I know, right?

    Ether start in the FMTV

I'm in south carolina, too. And it took a bunch of cranking for it to tug tug tug to a start. it may not be cold here a lot, but when things get nasty I want to be able to count on my truck. You're an hour south and east of me, So here in the mountains things might get a little more chill than...

LMTV M1078 Transmission Fluid Change To ATF Write Up

Harsh shifts is one of the results. I know it because I did the change before and the shifts are much better, especially when cold. PS. Does that Allison repair guy buy you a new transmission, in case his opinion was wrong and changing the fluid wasn't a waste of money after all? I would have...

LMTV M1078 Transmission Fluid Change To ATF Write Up

I didn't see levelox's reply as an insult. It's your right to use whatever you want in your trucks transmission. As it was said before , The Army just uses oil as it is simpler and it is one of the fluids specified by Allison to work in the FMYV transmission. I won't last as long though. which...

    Ether start in the FMTV

    Ether start in the FMTV

I appreciate all the suggestions and help. And now i also have something to ad to gelp othes maybe. instead of trying to take off the ether bottle and weigh it or take off the fitting and sniff the air for ether. Do this: -make sure the solenoid actually engages and is not stuck. -remove the...

    Ether start in the FMTV

It fits in one of the freezeplugs, i assume? Do you leave it plugged in all the time? or plug in at a certain time before starting engine?

    Ether start in the FMTV

@snowtrac when you use your system and press the button does it make a noise? A hissing of some sort or so? How do you know if it ejects or if the bottle is empty?
