My truck did the same thing. I needed up having to ditch the box filter for a spin on. My filter base started sucking in air so I got rid of it. To determine my filter was bad I used a small clear inplace of the stock unit and all the issues went away. Hope this helps.

I would say you just spray some wd40 on the selonoid shaft. Just remember less is more. You don't want to just submerge everything in it. Hope this helps.

Is your vent window closing completely? They can leak water also.

I found a fuel filter for a lawn mower, some dirt and nothing else. The po did throw in a TM manual with was nice.
