Headlights flickering - Location of hood harness ground?

You'd have to find the wiring schematic and do a circuit trace to figure this out, maybe. The hood, being fiberglass, connected to the frame via two greased hinges, isn't grounded. (file under "DUH!"). So where's the ground wire(s)? Follow the hood wiring harness to the Cannon plug on the...

HMMWV Fuel Fill Up - Overflows from tank?

Old, bad gasket on top, or on sender unit, or around vent and/or filler hose. Find your truck's listing in 24P-1, order all rubber parts from Kascar, Hummerpartsguy or other source. Plan to drop the tank and replace all parts (including drain plug). It's on my list of "todos" for our next...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I looked for a switch panel - found on amazon, for marine use, 24V - once I got it home, measured and cut out sides/back from 0.090" aluminum 12x12" sheet (chop saw with a carbide blade), used 1/2" aluminum angle for corners, lots of 1/8" aluminum pop rivets. Should've drawn up plans, did it...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Finally plugged a home built switch box in to panel/gauge lighting, haven't wired/routed power line yet, next warm day I'm off. It was almost 55F today, no wind. Helped son with one of his headboard projects, he helped with the winch - works great.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

replaced screws holding tunnel boards with 8-32 nutserts and 8-32 screws today. Eight all told, now I'm thinking about replacing ALL the screws holding down padding/insulation/cowling with same. A little time-consuming, but a little zen-like, too. Nice feeling of accomplishment as I know over...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Dr. Evil Porkchop ran an ad a while back, I came across it while scrolling through the ads. It may or may not last, but it's how I remember the last HMMWV I drove, late '90s, IIRC (maybe early 2000s). I kept the switch unit for a spare - you never know.

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

Good question. I'm not an electronics tech - but I've build and rebuilt a few ham radios and amps over the years among other projects. I can read circuit tracings and troubleshoot and solder with the best of 'em, but I think you might want to direct that question to Guyfang, he's a generator...

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

5406s have slightly better peak voltage handling and blocking (i.e. - less likely to sacrifice itself for transient, non-harmful voltage spikes). See PDF attached. I had some MOVs (V14201U) on hand from another project and will get one installed this afternoon when it gets into the 40s outside.

    Glowplug controller question

Ouch. Bought mine from Hummerpartsguy just before new years for $490 delivered, box AND temp. sensor. Wish I'd done that months ago. Truck DID need new glowplugs though, so that's out of the way too. Engine fires on about half a turn now, 20 degrees outside even. Smooth running. Keeping...

    Synthetic rope for hydraulic winch

My dad used to share this "bar joke": which weighs more, a pound of gold, or a pound of feathers? Answer's obvious if you're sober and think about it, but the real answer is, would you rather have a pound of gold or a pound of feathers dropped onto your head?

How much did you pay for your M998/humvee?

YUGE regional market differences as well. Before buying locally I spent months on this site and others including the evil auction sites and craigslist and GP looking into prices (I even called a dozen or so sellers before and after they sold) and I found sales after government sales easily...

    Battery compartment?

Thanks for pointing that out, Mike. I adjusted it after the initial install for that exact reason, just didn't take a picture.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Got the heater working. BEAUTIFUL weather today, figured, hey, couple hours and I'll go for a ride. Um... yeah, five hours later, including a quick trip to ACE hdwr for new rubber grommets and some hose clamps (went ahead and replaced all the 5/8 hose while I was doing it), replacing the...

    Battery compartment?

After poking around my Humvee for a couple days, it occurred to me I was going to need a LOT of bolts. Or WANTED to replace a lot of them. And washers. And use nylon locknuts on many of them. Amazon has amazing prices on 100-count lots of zinc chromate finished parts and, compared to the big...

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

THAT's reassuring. There's a data plate on the engine referencing a rebuild (I forget exact verbiage) at Ft. Lewis, WA from, IIRC, 2005. It's one of the things that sold me on buying the beast. Not that I'm still not going to drain and replace fluids (I have all the cooling system hoses, just...

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

Well, yeah, but will it fit my truck? That's the $100-plus ($30 + S&H) question. IF there's a newer part number, is the part you referenced THAT part, or won't I know until I actually drop the thing, see what I've got, and THEN order all the parts? Okay, found a cross-reference line here in...

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind if it turns out I actually need to replace the tank. NB

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

Ausgezeichnet! Recht vielen Dank für Ihre verständnis. SOMEHOW, I got the idea, maybe from the title (I'm going to have to look later) what I owned was an M998. D'oh! Meanwhile, several months have gone by, and, thanks to you, I'm the proud new owner of: Truck, Utility, CGO/TRP CARR, 1-1/4...

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

So far as I can tell, yes, I have the second type. Pkg brake goes to rear discs. That said, the second part of my question and the most important, is HOW does one track these things down? Which manual, which TM says "this tank for this truck with brakes that go like this" and so on? So I can...

Of fuel tanks and TMs and websearches, oh my.

topic: 1992 M998 fuel tank. Leaking. project: drop tank, replace gaskets. Maybe put an armor plate on the bottom of the tank. Maybe replace the tank. Thing in there is what, blown polyethylene with some stabilizers added, 25 or more years ago? Crunch the numbers for the cost for parts vs...
