I think it is premature at this point. At this point with stuff in review the only answer they will get is that this is temporary while they review things.
When a final decision has been reached, if it is a bad one then we start the pressure.
There was a period in the 50's and 60's when all the guages did- so an old original might have some, if they were replaced maybe not. A 1986 AF truck might have some if somebody swapped used parts in- it is a crapshoot.
I bet they are inspecting the guages for radiation- that seems to be the fuss behind the latest demil change.
I would bet any guages with tritium get stripped out before they are released.
Don't use ATF. It has frinction modifiers in it that are iffy at best, and is NOT designed to burn without leaving ash or residue. I have seen some studies that said it actually reduced the lubricty of some fuels.
2 cycle engine oil is your best choice. It is designed to increase the lubricity...
You expect too much logic from a huge government machine.
DEMIL code reviews go NSN by NSN, or NSN group by NSN group.
If the item manager for these trucks changes it, that change will only apply to those NSN's. The big machine only sees NSN's and DEMIL codes, and does not look for logic...
I don't think the F code will stick, but time will tell. By M-series she likely meant "M-44 series" that would include the a2.s, 109 vans, etc.
I think I am going to email the item manager for the M35A2 and see what response I get.
To fit in a HMMWV you need the center mount turbo setup that is used on HMMWV's, GMC/Chevy vans with 6.5's and some set vans and RV's.
To use the center mount Turbo you will need the intake, heads, and exhaust from a 6.5 with the center mount turbo. The angle of the intake mounting studs are...
I expect the 900 series 5 tons to start showing up more and more. Reset for them is limited and FMTV procurement is replacing them, leaving no need to reset them.
HMMWV and HEMTT, no time soon for sure.
I did some backchannel calling today. Nobody I can quote directly, but I think this info is good enough to share.
There is a review of ALL demil codes going on now. This is driven by the same F-14 parts deal that has caused much hassle in years previous. DOD has been embarressed one too many...
I just picked up two units that are complete with automatic transfer switch. These were used for mountaintop radio sites, and were maintaned monthly by the power company that leased them.
They are propane/natural gas powered, 8.5 kw on propane and 7.5 kw on NG. The great thing about using...
As stated the initial reason was to disguise them as cargo trucks. We even rigged a set on a HEMTT tanker in Afghanistan to help hide what it was.
A very nice secondary effect is that for reserve and guard units where the wrecker may sit for months they proved great protection from the elements.
