Swap it for an M1008 if you can. That will get you the low end torque you want.
It just wont have as much highway speed. Others will chime in with more data.
I wonder if you could buy a small sheet of rubber of the correct thickness and type and then cut out the gasket. Maybe some one has some fancy laser cutting equipment that could cut it out.
Just to make sure I understand, we are talking about the mirrors that are mounted to the side of the doors and not the one that is glued to the middle of the windshield, right?

If I remember right, the controler reads the temp sensor on the side of the engine
to decide whether to afterglow or not. Since there are several variables that determine
how hot the engine will be at the time it checks, this may not be a simple question.
