What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Cut three truckloads of firewood today. Truck works great with a long logging chain dragging trees out in low lock, and can handle much bigger loads than my 2500HD used to. Plus, I don't have to worry about keeping a pretty truck pretty while getting back to the wood. This is the real reason I...

Another vote for PB and heat. 2cents

i need pics of lift size w/ tire size to help me decide

The stock tires are 31's and look a little small to me. I'd skip the hassle of a lift if you're only going to 33's. I went up 5" to use 37's and I did it mainly to make the truck more driveable w/o getting into the gears. Sure makes it nice off road though!

1" Zero Rate to move Front Axle foward

um, no. Aftermarket springs are 2.5" wise and the originals are 3" wide. They make zero rates in either width depending on which spring you are using. If EZ inch only comes in 2.5 I'd send them back and buy another brand.

1" Zero Rate to move Front Axle foward

Dan, drilling the cast spring perch to relocate the axle is easy. I drilled a small pilot hole and then followed with a step drill and lubricant. I would stick with the 1" forward as that is plenty. I did not have to cut the drag link ends but they are fully bottomed out against each other but...

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

I can believe that. The rears ride smoother than the fronts and I haven't done anything to the rears. I think I'm going to start over with just plain static or bubble balance with stick on weights inside and see what happens. The streetability of the truck sure improved with the taller tires...

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

On an interesting note, I am selling my Uniroyal Loredos on the original rims and I got a call from my craigslist ad last night. turns out the guy put Hummer wheels and tires on his '86 3500 crew cab and got rid of his original tires. He was frustrated with the attempts at wheel balancing and...

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

Yes. I would like to accomplish a couple things with the rear. 1) Move the wheels back to better center them in the wheel openings 2) Remove some leafs for better unloaded ride and better articulation.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Drove my 1008 up north to pull the boat out for the winter. Sure was nice to be able to drive 65 very comfortably with the tall tires. I even passed a few folks! :-P After the first 100 miles I discovered that I accidentally had my front hubs locked. Doh!

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

I believe I have solved the problem. Only the left side hit and it was just at the very lower front fender corner so I tweaked the lower fender inward and cut the lower edge with a cut off wheel. Minor trimming and is not noticeable. I don't have to worry about the passenger side as that fender...

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

I have a question about front axle positioning though. I've read where some of you moved the front axle forward an inch with zero rates for more clearance. That is the way I did it on my truck and the tires hit the lower front wheel opening easily on compression with the wheels turned slightly...

    37X12.5X16.5 HUMMER Wheels M1008?

The 2" spacers are plenty for steering component clearance. No need to go farther, it will just make tire/ fender interference worse. As far as the spacers not being "hub centric", that doesn't matter if you have the later 12 bolt wheels. Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've read, there...

    M1008 Speedometer recalibration

Installed a blue 38 tooth driven gear today. Piece of cake job but as mentioned earlier, the smaller blue gear did not contact the t case drive gear. No need to buy a new housing. All I did was grind the smallest cast in tab off the housing to get rid of the interference with the locking...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Got my blue 38 tooth speedo gear in the mail and put it in. Now my speedometer is correct. The truck cruises comfortably at 68 mph now.

Got my spacers, wheel and tires all mounted up. Gotta try some balancing beads to see if I can get rid of the ton of wheel weights...

    M1008 Spacers

Check these spacers out. Just got them for the front. $95 with free shipping from eBay and came with the correct 9/16" studs and lug nuts small enough to fit inside the wells to mount the spacers to the truck.

    CUCV Hood stack

Usually there is nothing gained by them for the driving conditions that these Coka Cola cowboy trucks see. The big chrome ones look silly to me. However, I am planning on a single 3" flat painted bed stack with a weather flapper for two reasons. Mainly to keep the exhaust short and simple...

h1 tires pop off the bead pretty easy.

How low did he lower the pressure? Sounds like a beadlock system is in order. That's what they are for, to allow you to run low air pressures without the bead coming off. The 37x12.50x16.5 tires are somewhat narrow tires for the height and are going to have bead issues at low pressures on wider...
