True. If it were made by Penzoil I would run away. Their paraffin based oil gummed up the 4 cylinder Fords so bad back in the '80s that it starved the bearings for oil. Personally, I'll stick with Rotella since it's so widely used by the diesel owners and just as economical.
I like the 37's with the stock 4.56 gears and stock TH400. That's the most painless start and then if you want to go farther you can. I believe in testing improvements as you go instead of reworking the whole truck (and the wallet) right off the get go.
Looks good Warwag. And familiar. Personally I prefer the axles relocated but the way the shackle flip works the rear is going to be off center one way or the other. Without the relocation the wheel will be forward in the opening unloaded and will move to center under heavy load. With relocation...
I really think I am just going to mount a civi plug in another hole where I'm sure there's clearance in the back. That way I know everything is up to date with my trailers and I won't have to mess with adapters. Not like my truck is correctly bone stock anyway.
Seems like someone would be producing a simple and economical 12 pin to 7 blade plug in adapter. The only one I found was $159 and would not operate trailer brakes.
No offense but you can save a heck of a lot more than twenty or thirty bucks. They have nice stuff but at a very premium price. They buy most of the stuff like springs, greasable bushings etc from somewhere else and resell of to us in "kit" form for our convenience. I seriously wish I would have...
I ran into this same issue. I was hoping to slip a new style receptacle into the existing bumper hole and paint it army green. The receptacles are too deep where they interfere with the bumper support. I am either going to mount it to a bracket under the bumper or use a hole saw and mount it...
The ORD kit is a nice kit. It's expensive though. You can do better by putting your own "kit" together, like buy your Rough Country springs direct, etc.
Whitfield, click on the first photo in my last post and it will show how the rear wheel gets moved forward when using a shackle flip type lift on the rear. By moving the rear spring pivot point downward a total of 8" it changes the wheel position quite a bit. Works fine but still bugs me...
Don't remember what their gear ratios were but they were mostly stock trucks with factory tire sizes. Just making the point that these trucks have good low end torque but are far from a powerhouse at road speed. If I don't drop below 55 on grades with the boat I'm doing good. There are some good...
Very possible. While my truck is MUCH more drivable now in an unloaded condition, it loses lots of speed on hills with just a 17' boat behind it. I'd really have to be in the throttle with any less gearing. Unloaded, it seems to like it best between 60-65 mph. I'm curious how it's going to pull...
Is the 6.2 gonna have enough umph to push the truck with 37" tires and 3.73 gears? That will put your new effective ratio at 3.13:1. If you leave the 4.56's in with the 37" tires, the new effective ratio is just over the 3.73:1 target. (3.82:1)
Found this on a Superlift gearing/ tire size...
The sway bar disconnect kit is a pretty cool setup. However, once I disconnected the bar I've never gone through the trouble of hooking it back up. I really can't feel much of a difference.
I don't get it. Seems like you'd either swap axles OR go with the 37's. Why do both? I don't think you'd want to drop down to 4.10's with the tall tires personally. Seems like you'd try the 37's first and do the harder part if you felt you needed to go further. 2cents
The 4.56's are perfect for...
I bought my truck from General Jim's Surplus in Clare MI. It was a good experience as they have a mechanic go over them. New batteries, glow plugs, starter relay etc etc.
I appreciate your opinions but sorry, if I have to pay $15 per year to feel like I am in the family circle, I'll pass. I like this site and have met some great folks through here, but I have done the same on the other forums as well. And I like to think I contribute as well as just take. Would I...
That's what I do and have great success. C/L is a great value for sellers. I am a member of many forums for each of my hobbies, Yamaha snowmobiles, Schwinn bicycles, Mustangs, Century boats, off roading, etc etc. This is the only forum that I visit that requires cash to post in certain areas and...
