Hmm. . . intresting. I don't know if its just my speedo, but my needle has a tendency to shake like a hula girl doll around the edges of the gauge. It doesn't like to steady out until about 15MPH on the low side and often starts shaking around when I'm topping the truck out on the high side...
@soule64 Yeah, still waiting on my front leaf springs. Also ordered the swaybar disconnects. Was told they were back ordered on bushings for 'em, so still waiting for those too :-|
The phrase of the day is "slowly assembling"
Talked to the chief mechanic for the unit today. He said the soft tops are dyed. Apparently, due to them being flexible (and the inevitable flexing that comes with being flexible) paint would chip. His words, not mine.
Awesome. I just got my shackle flip kit in today. Probably gonna be ordering up the brake lines, shackles and possibly the crossover kit pretty soon here. Ordered new front shocks last night. I'm slowing assembling parts and pieces. I've still got some other gremlins I need to work out...
@ccf460 My Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual specifically warns against trying to repair the injection pump. The DIY procedures on the IP are limited to removing and installing fuel lines, removing and installing injection nozzles, testing the governor weight retainer ring, removing and...
@91W350 Really? Didn't know that. Guess you learn something new everyday. . .
Well, the gear ratios are the same, otherwise they'd be fighting each other and you would know it.
HOWEVER, it still doesn't mean the truck HASN'T been regeared. Have a look at the front diff next time you change...
The wires are probably for the tranny. I noticed these on mine. It could have been regeared. Next time you change your front diff oil pull the cover off and look for you ring gear (the big gear that sticks out past the diff housing) and the pinion gear (the smaller gear at a 90 degree angle to...
No. The M1009 uses the GM 10 bolt axle on both ends. The M1008 uses the GM 14 bolt axle in the rear. It might have been swapped out by somebody. Go count the bolts on the differential cover on the back. If its secured with 10 bolts, its a 10 bolt. If its secured with 14, its the original...
Sorry. Brain fart/bad info. I'll admit mistakes when they are made. I'll have to throw some of that NO-OX-ID stuff in my giant tough box full of automotive lubricants and fluids. Any idea where I can get some? By the way, mistaken1 is pretty much the expert on electrical stuff around here. His...
@tvguy Cool. Let me know how it goes. I'm just ordering parts and pieces right now (and trying to work some gremlins on the truck out) About how long are your front shocks extended? Are you getting new shackles for the rear? If you're putting on H1's you might as well put on a set of HMMWV...
I'd say just keep the pistol on you. Easier to reach if you need it and there's not a lot of places to hide it in the truck anyways.
Thats your fill plug. Wouldn't suprise me if somebody rounded out the square hole on the old one and decided to replace it once they got it off. If they were...
I'll see if I can sneak a peak at some of the soft tops tommorrow, maybe talk to some mechanics. I'm pretty sure they're just a heavy vinyl or plastic. You might want to look into something like this:
Vinyl, Leather, Plastic and Bumper Coatings# (Scroll down to vinyl and plastic coatings)
Not...
The Gear Vendors is pricey, but you should be able to put it on the truck yourself. About the biggest modification you'll have to do is get a shorter driveshaft.
P.S. ???? Don't know how the thread got on 1911's. . . Unless you have a concealed carry permit, I wouldn't try hiding it in the truck.
@diesel583 Good deal. I'm something of a pessimist so I tend to look at things with a "hope for the best, plan for the worse" mentality. I mean who knows? You could have this poor guys problem and have a bad harmonic balancer that leads to a total crank failure. The 6.2's are notorious for...
Doesn't sound good. I had that problem once when I replaced the batteries and wired them up wrong  Rare electrical sells nice, shiny, new, correct 24V starters for $90 as well as the super-special isolated ground alternators. Here's the link:
Welcome to Rare Electrical
Just do a search for...
:ditto:
There were a couple of OD units that were/are made. One is no longer in productinon and I can't remember the name to save my life, but it attached around the rear axle. A gear vendors OD would attach to the rear of the T-case w,hereas you still have the original slip yoke. There...
@RND Not to start a p***ing contest, but I must respectfully disagree. Mine's a M1028 with the NP205. Check out the pics:
1. Looks just like a M1008.
2. Data plate says its an M1028 though.
3. Shifter for my t-case. Notice how it doesn't have the shift window like the NP208's do. The shift...
