    Gov't CUCV Modification?

So the data plate on my CUCV says its an M1028. Not M1028A-anything. Just M1028. However, there were some things that were confusing me like why the truck had an NP205 transfer case (only used on M1028A1's and M1031's) . I just accepted that that was the way it came from the factory (which led...

    New M1009 owner in Alaska...

Welcome to the site. You seem to be learning fast. Try Rare Electrical for an alternator. They sell the "special" isolated ground alternators for the CUCV's. Dropped a pair in a couple of months ago and have had no problems. I'm pretty sure it was a bad diode in on of the alternators, but when...

Someone tried to steal my truck!

Sorry to hear about the truck. Might want to take this opportunity to change out the locks if that hasn't been done already. They might be smarter next time and just decide not to pry the lock. . . (hint, hint)

    ford cucv?

@wreckerman: We still have stuff like that running around post doing post police calls and what not. Usually they're pretty basic Ford F-150's with a light bar, government plates and not much else. I've never seen one repainted or with stencils on it. A while back, my best buddy bought an '08...

    CUCV mileage question

So my odometer is reading at about 13,700 miles. Problem is I don't know if this is actually 13,700 miles or 113,700 miles. The previous owner stated that the mileage should be 13,700 miles, but I really don't have anything to back this up other than the previous title. Either way, the truck...

    ford cucv?

I found this one in a junkyard not far from here. It was an old (probably about 80-something) Ford Ranger. As you can see it looks like it has mil-spec paint and somebody blacked out the "For Official Use Only" lettering on the doors. I'm guessing maybe Air Force run around/go-getter? Granted...

    Full floating axle question

This says 5.4 pints which = 2.7 quarts. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PR-ARB/articles/14b_Gear_Setup/ Haynes manual for the same year Chevy truck says diff oil is SAE 80W or SAE 80W-90 GL-5 gear lubricant. IMHO 2.7 quarts seems a little low to me. I would just pump in the new oil...

what branch/unit did your cucv serve with?

My 1028 (according to the previous owner) was used by the SC National Guard. A post run around for getting mail and what-not IIRC. Unfortunately, the previous owner had it repainted so theres no exterior markings on it anymore :(

    Delco batterys

:ditto: Plus the smell of the farm stores is awesome. I personally dropped a set of Optima yellow tops in and never looked back. Plus, I've heard of them lasting 7 or 8 years in CUCV's.

Eaton Locker for Dana 60 Front Axle

Just throw a selectable locker or limited slip in front (I believe there are selectable lockers that act like limited slips when not engaged. I know the new Dodge Power Wagons have something like this.) My 1028's hard enough to steer when not in 4wd, never mind a locker in front.

How do you remove and clean fuse box?

Somebody posted a good thread about using street sweeper bristles that his daughters always bring to him to clean electrical connections. Believe he wrapped the ends in sandpaper. Looked like it was the size of a dipstick. If you can't get the actual bristles, might want to run to the the local...

Took the wife out in the Old truck.

Nice. Don't get a M1009. It's not a matter of "if" those 10-bolts will blow its a matter of "when" You could always make the truck into a "Combat Cadillac" (M1008/M1028, etc. parts on a similar-year Suburban body) One of my favorite places to wheel around here is a place called Overhills. Its an...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Dropped in a K&N air filter (14" diam X 4" tall). Did the doghead starter relay mod (Note: I had some trouble with the ring terminals. If you're going to use ring terminals, might want to use one with a smaller size connection relative to the ring or be prepared to do fabbing.) Getting new...

Ideia to quiet down a 6.2L

Banks makes a turbo kit for the 6.2 that includes a full intake and exhaust system plus the turbo. They'll also throw in gauges if you want them. It's pricey though. Figure about $2,000 for the kit with gauges. Maybe 200 or 300 less for the kit without gauges. On the issue of noise, I've got...

    Passenger side Alt supplier

Yep. Replaced my alts about a month ago. I would say don't buy from ebay. You can get the same thing from their website. Just google "rare electrical." The reason I bought mine was because 1. My CUCV is my DD and 2. The closest place that I felt comfortable with rebuilding them wanted...

    Oops...stuck in the mud.

I think wreckerman has so many trucks he doesn't hitchhike much and when he does, he just goes home to get another truck to tow the broke one rofl Getting stuck happens to everybody. Myself included. I've haven't had my truck that long (but long enough to find out it does have gremlins, also...

    Found...Mystery Bolt???

I believe its actually for a kanuter valve. They're usually kept with M203 blank firing adapters, winter air for tires, headlight and blinker fluid, exhaust samples, canopy lights, the keys for the drop zone, and the special hammer you need to check for weak spots in armor. No seriously, if it...

    New CUCV?

Pretty similiar on both accounts, but like I said it had the new Silverado body style (GMT 900) versus the older (GMT 800) body style in the pics. After further research I believe it be a MILCOTS (Military Commercial Off the Shelf) truck aka a Milverado which apparently is being used by the U.S...

    New CUCV?

So I was at the shoppette today when I saw a newer looking truck with a troop cover on the bed like they had on the old CUCV's. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a newer Chevy Silverado HD crew cab. It was painted OD Green (the paint looked rather grayish) it had a brush guard on the...

    ORD parts

@tvguy Don't worry about it. Jacked the front of the truck yesterday up so the tires were spinning freely and measured the shocks. Came out to around 18 1/2" Started looking around for Skyjacker shocks for the front end of an '86 K30 with 4" of lift on Summit Racing. Found what I needed and...
