    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

Wow, those proportions make it look bigger than I thought. thanks for the pics Elwenil. Does it protrude out from the torque converter a little bit? It looks as though it may by as much as a 1/4". So guys, are there any other gotchas I've got to look out for in order to do this swap? I...

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

Thanks Clinto, that helps a lot. Thanks for the pictures especially. By the way, do you happen to have a picture of the new needle bearing installed in the crank, versus an old style bushing? I would be interested in how they compare. The 440 I have in my M880 is a `76 block with a cast...

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

So is the new number a Mopar part number I've got to get from the dealership, or is available at NAPA? Also, I wasn't entirely clear on this point, the new bushing design, does it or does it not require a shorter input shaft on the transmission? Or is the bushing surface on the input shaft...

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

Thanks for the heads up Clinto. This opens up some interesting possibilities. So let me make sure I understand this tech question correctly: There was a NAPA part number 615-1033 that was undersized and pressed into the existing drilled hole in the crank, but was discontinued since the...

    9.00X16" tire tube stem size

Okay, this is starting to make more sense. I was wondering why the guys at the shop were telling me to look for a TR440-445 stem tube. (they were having trouble finding one out west) Apparently the TR440 Series tubes have replaced the TR75A and TR460 series. I went out and checked, and the...

    9.00X16" tire tube stem size

Hello all, I need to figure out what tube and flap to get to go with the 9.00X16" NDT Denman tire that goes with my M101A1 trailer. I looked at some of the material that CGarbee has on his web site, and it seems to indicate that the tube valve number should be a TR 177A. Is this right? I'm...

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

The BB 440's that were mated to the auto 727 tranny didn't have the bore in the end of the crank needed for the pilot bushing. You would either need to get the hole drilled and bored, or find a crank that came out of an engine that was mated to a manual transmission.

    440 Dodge w/727 Deuce

Judging by your description and the pictures you've attached, sounds like you are running a 440 BB/727 torqueflite combo from a car that had the long output shaft and housing, and then you are just fabbing up a short intermediate drive line to the stock transfer case. This is essentially a...

M101 finally gets the attention ....

Very nice. I would like to do the same thing with my M101 trailer. I need to get five more bows, as I only currently have one. Need to get the canvas cover too. Can you "share" some of this knowlege with me too? Thanks.

    EMP & The CUCV

Hi Jim, yes I pointed that out in my original reply, that there are a lot of uncertainties due to the lack of test data and the poor theoretical understanding of the phenomena at the time that the few high altitude tests were performed. I wasn't disagreeing with you on that point. The point I...

    EMP & The CUCV

Hi Jim, its a documented fact that the EMP from the early high altitude nuclear tests in the South Pacific during the fifties knocked out power systems as far away as Hawaii. You sound to be misinformed to some degree on your sources, however I will agree with you that there are still a lot of...

    M880 Troop Seats

Are you sure they're interchangeable with the CUCV? I know the M880 troop seats have one leg that is shorter to accomodate the gas filler neck hump, and I'd be surprised if they were located in the same place and same dimensions as on the M880.

Some more questions from a rookie

Those 12.50" wide bias ply humvee tires will likely wear quickly as well, seeing as he's running them on the stock 16.5"x6.75" wide wheels. The narrow width of the wheel will bow the tire tread up in the middle (more so than would on a radial tire) and wear there fast than the rest of the...

    What axle is this?

RE: confused? Thanks Elwenil. that is essentially what I meant. I realize that the term "unit bearing" is probably more appropriately used on the `94 and later hub bearing setups. I was just being sloppy and using the same term to describe the closely spaced bearing setup used on the full...

    What axle is this?

I think Ambulancechser is confusing this with the full time Dana 44 front. It had the unit bearing setup that so many people criticize. The Dana 60F is a good axle and I don't think you have to worry about the bearings on it since it has a spaced out tapered bearing setup on a spindle like...

Some more questions from a rookie

Tommi, I've never done any performance work on the 318. Seemed like better money spent to devote that attention to a larger engine, like a 360, or a big block (383, 400, or 440.) However there are guys who have built up some impressive 318's. Make an inquiry over at www.ramchargercentral.com...
