Wanted to ispect the air filter element and inadvertently pinched the wires going to the temp sending unit and flame starter ignitor when closing the filter housing. :doh:

If there is no white smoke coming out of the exhaust when trying to start it I would agree with the fuel shutoff solinoid mentioned in several responses above.

What do you need to do to make her reliable and roadworthy?
My M35A2 has locking hubs on the front axle and I use the transfer case to split gears all the time. So far no issues in 6 years with my current truck or the previous truck.
I just dont engage the front axle while the truck is in motion unless my hubs are locked.
If you want to know the date of manufacture for a Willys MB engine you can drop the oil pan and look for a date stamp by the rear main seal. I admit it is extreme, but I have seen cases where the number stamped on the boss behind the oil filter housing can be misleading.
