    Clutch Job Looming

Check - disk in the correct orientation. I checked and double-checked this during the install. The disk actually had a sticker on one side which said "This side toward Pressure Plate." Additionally I matched the orientation of the disk I removed. Check - all new disk, PP, T/O bearing and...

Tks Gimpy, not what I was looking for - but I appreciate the help.

    Clutch Job Looming

Maybe my terminology is wrong? I would think that if the truck was in gear, but I had pressed the clutch to the floor the output shaft should spin freely? When you adjusted your PP, were you able to do it while the tranny was installed via the inspection window in the bellhousing?

    Clutch Job Looming

Gimp - that's exactly what my old 4 finger looks like, I don't recall my 3 finger having those adjusters though. Actually, when I look at pictures of them online, they do seem to have something similar. I am going to be irritated if I have to take the whole darned thing apart again to make...

    Clutch Job Looming

3 finger PP, I didn't notice any adjustment possible on it when I was ready to install. But I wasn't looking for that. I fired it up this evening and checked to see if I could get it to work, no dice. Griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd..........

    Clutch Job Looming

Update: I got my new clutch installed (new pilot bushing, T/O bearing, PP and disk) and the tranny reinstalled. NEVER again will I do a tranny on a deuce without the clutch alignment tool - what a PITA. What should have been an hour took 5.5 - and I used a chain hoist. The issue I am having...

    new Deuce shifting problems

Mine has never downshifted 5th to 4th very well. I usually skip 4th and go straight to 3rd. Never tried the double-clutch though.....

Who has installed ARB air lockers in at least one axle of thier bobber?

I feel bad as I can't really contribute to the OP's question - but I installed lockers in my landcruiser, it made a HUGE difference. Completely different animal off-road. I imagine it would be the same for a bobbed deuce. I have plans for lockers (front and rear) in my deuce. After doing...

    Wobbly input shaft

Cheers guys - I feel much better about the whole thing now that some experienced folks have weighed in with their thoughts on it.

    Clutch Job Looming

Tks for the counsel guys. I dropped the flywheel off at the machine shop last night. $60 to get it resurfaced :-(. I think I threw up a little in my mouth when he told me......

    Wobbly input shaft

No tranny noise while idling in neutral. The only noise it made was when the clutch was engaged, and I know the T/O bearing is bad (that's what kicked the whole thing off.) I also found I couldn't shift into 1st or R, I attributed that to my bad clutch though.

    Wobbly input shaft

I posted this same question buried deep in a tangentially related thread - so I am pulling it out to see if I can get some help. I am doing a clutch job on my deuce, and in pulling the tranny I noticed I have quite a bit of wobble or play in the input shaft, ~1/16" in fact. When I yanked the...

Doesn't DOT 5 normally come in deuces?

DOT 5 changes from purple to yellow/amber when exposed to oxygen. I bled my brakes putting in all new DOT 5, and then a few weeks later did a bob job and had to rebleed. Over the couple of weeks all my DOT 5 turned from purple to yellow/amber - almost the exact same color as DOT 3.

    Clutch Job Looming

Any thoughts on this one? I am up against a time deadline and could use some help on what I am looking at. I have read through the TM and my assumption is that my input bearing and/or roller bearings on the input shaft are bad. Not sure if this is related to my 1st/R shifting problem as those...

    Clutch Job Looming

Sorry blister - I am halfway into the job and just now busted out the camera. I'll see if I can shoot some pic's if I get home before it gets dark tomorrow. I have been surprised at how very simple and straightforward the job is. I would recommend removing the passenger seat first, followed...

    Clutch Job Looming

Yesterday I got all the prep work done, everything disconnected/removed except the actual transmission. Then today while I was at work a buddy came by and pulled the transmission for me. He did a 4x4 from the windshield to the back, and hooked a chain hoist up to it. Seems like it went pretty...

    Clutch Job Looming

Not sure, I picked the truck up from GL maybe 1k miles ago. When I look up in the inspection plate on the bellhousing, I can see grease on the splines and in that general area. I think the bearing itself is sealed though? So the grease would really just be for moving the bearing on the tranny...

    Clutch Job Looming

That's a good idea, if it weren't for the fact I can hear my T/O bearing grinding when I push the clutch it, I would definitely try adjusting it first.

    Clutch Job Looming

Great tips guys - tks. I started tear-down last night. I spent ~2hrs and got everything apart up to tranny removal. I am going to steal a trick I read here while searching info on this and run a 4x4 front to back and suspend a chain hoist from it. I plan on running the chain through a steel...

    Clutch Job Looming

So I believe I have a clutch job in my immediate future for my bobbed deuce. I noticed a week or so ago while stopping at lights that sporadically when I engaged the clutch I could feel light vibrations in the pedal and hear some unhappy grinding sounds. They immediatly went away if I released...
