It's been slow going on this project with work and kids getting in the way. The main goal now is to get the deuce bed where I can load and unload the shelter at home. That way I can work on it in the evenings.
I've got a HMMWV hyd winch coming that should be here tomorrow and I've got to fab up...
Found the GL rep (Robyn's) profile http://www.steelsoldiers.com/member.php?2364-USMilitarySurplus
Funny thing is that although she hasn't posted since 2008, somebody has been logged in on that account 2/19/2015. Somebody must be watching.
My issue with the GL rep (can't remember her name) is that she had no authority to help anybody.
This was during the time of the big deuce flood. Lots of members were buying trucks and GL was having huge deuce auctions. Just because of the shear numbers that were selling each week there were...
Standard S280 mainly (from the info I've seen, around 1,500lbs). I've also got a M49 deuce tanker bed that I thought I might also add some skids on and winch it onto the deuce if I need to transport some water. The tanker would be empty when loading/unloading it from the deuce bed so I'm just...
I was looking at my bed the other day and was thinking maybe have the roller tied into the bed side channel. You're right, I looked at the rear and it's pretty thin.
My thinking is make two receivers on each bed corner and have the end roller supports hook into that. I'll make the receivers...
What is the dia of your roller? I've got some 5" pipe I'm thinking of using for mine.
I'm also going to try and get by without the center support for the roller. Since it's going to be removable, it would just be easier without the center support. I honestly don't think the 5" pipe will flex...
I know this is a old thread but for loading and unloading, check out Red's setup http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?127712-Red-s-deuce-camper-project&p=1701933&viewfull=1#post1701933 .
That's how I plan on setting up mine.
Probably not without a bunch of work. The deuce spare is mounted right where the fuel tank is on your M54. Only option I see is to remove one of your fuel tanks.
If you're not going to be loaded all that heavy, it's not terrible not to carry a spare on a dualed out truck if you don't normally...
My shelter is going in a deuce so my spare is mounted under the front of the bed.
The shelter itself measures right at 12'. When I added the skid it sticks beyond each end 3" because I wanted the skid to stick beyond the shelter itself to protect it during loading/unloading. That's makes to...
I'm not sure I understand your question. The spare tire will be in the spare tire carrier with or without the shelter in the bed.
As for the roof, I had 18' of material so not enough to go over it again. You make some good suggestions but I think I'll try it like it is and see how it works out...
Kenny, that's a good idea. I had been debating on leaving the florescent lights that are in it now but your strip lights may be the way to go.
My plan is to add some sort of A/C and I'll get me one of those Honda generators to run that but I'd like to still have lights and whatnot that I can...

Finally finished the skid today.
In the last two pics, what are these angle pieces mounted on the front and back for? Also, there are two big oddly shaped chunks of aluminum mounted on the front (end opposite the door) that I have no idea what it is.
Only way I've ever done video is make a Youtube video and link to it. I don't know if you can download a video directly to the site, Patracy would know.
I'd like to see the video though.
Dave, you may be right. I really don't know much about the shelters and haven't been able to find much info either. Most of the shelters I've seen though had something under on the bottom that had fork pockets in them, this shelter does not.
There is definitely something missing on the bottom...
