    S-280 camper build

Dave, I never thought about turning issues when towing a trailer with the tailgate down, good point. I've going to probably have the tailgate removed anyway so that shouldn't be a problem. If I go on extended camping trips I'll probably want to pull a m105 to carry extra stuff.

How do I post a classified ad?

This thread is several years old and the classifieds rules have changes since then. You must be a premium member to post a for sale classified ad. I'm going to close this thread because the info is outdated. Victor, I see you are a premium member so you should be able to post a classified...

    S-280 camper build

Most commercial van trailers are bare aluminum on the roof. Most camper trailers are either white or black rubber roof. I figured there would have been more of a temp difference between black and white. I'm sure the black was gloss though so that's bound to help. Also, taking a surface temp of...

    tire vendor question

Don't know anything about the dealer but I think retreads are illegal to run on the front. I know they are on big trucks, I'd assume light trucks would be the same.

Engine sound - don't like what I am hearing - Help me diagnose

First thing I'd check is fuel filters. Then I'd check the screen on the bottom of the in tank pump. The problem does sound fuel related.

    Moving vehicle on trailer question

As has been stated, the truck and trailer combo is more than capable of hauling said load. The problem is GVWR. I don't know why the rate them so low other than to cover their tail.

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

Already done. The truck has a dump on it already http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?50583-Started-my-dump-conversion&p=582032&viewfull=1#post582032 Look at the oilfield trucks or the pipeline deuce, none of them have guide rollers. I think a piece of wood on each side to keep from...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

I have seen a couple of shelter loading setups that use legs and it seems like it would work great, just seems like a lot of work to take in and out compared to what I'm building. What I'll probably do when I get to the campsite is unload the shelter and sit it on the ground. That way I won't...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

If you back up to the shelter square and in line before you start, it should winch on fairly straight. On the skid I made for the shelter, I attached shackles to each skid. There will actually be two attachment points on the shelter itself but will still end up at one point where the winch...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

Only one thing about the winch, I can't get over how flimsy the shift levers are (just thin stamped sheet metal) on these military winches. If you go to the Milemarker website, you can see the civilian version of this same winch. On it they show big, thick metal levers. Why on earth do the...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

Yes, I'm going to try it that way. If the roller flexes too much during testing, I'll add the middle roller mounts.

    1958 M37 flooded 7 years ago

I'll give you a honest opinion. Drop the oil pan, diff covers, and any other gear case covers you can easily get to. If everything is rusted up as I suspect, you have you a parts truck. You can probably buy two good M37s for what it's going to cost you in time and labor to get it going if...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

Gimpy, here's a pic of the solenoids.

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

Finally got some free time to do a little work. I finally figured out and made some brackets to attach the roller to the back of the bed. The two pieces will bolt together and clamp a bushing that the roller will turn in. The bracket will remain on the truck and I'll unbolt the top portion to...

    For What It's Worth

I just read the thread in the mod forum. I guess what you did will work too. Are you still going to keep my deuce registration number in your avatar? It's not on the truck anymore since I painted it over. You're avatar is the only way I still know what it is. :-D

    S-280 camper build

I have moved all the post that pertain to the bed loading setup to it's own thread in the deuce mod forum. That part is more associated with the modification of the truck and not the shelter...

Deuce tail roller and bed winch, skid loading setup

I had started this build in my "s280 shelter" thread but for ease of searching later on, I decided to move the bed loading setup in it's own thread. It pertains more to the modification of the truck and not the shelter anyway.

    Red's deuce/camper project

I don't know of a np205 ever being factory installed in a 5-ton truck. I don't think it would hold up very well, way too small.
