They were trashed! I had new ones made out of 1/8" aluminum but cab high rather than short, as the stock ones would only just trip you on your way falling out of the bed. The new ones will keep kids and adults safer for parades.
UM, I hope they didn't rebuild the transmission, they are rather notorious for bad transmission work. Mine lasted 70 miles and a friend of mine had one last not much longer. That said, the M211 is my FAVORITE Deuce!
After having his truck for a year, I can't wait to see what his next project is.
We just keep working to make the truck better and better each year. We did about $10,000 in improvements last year and from now on it will be mostly small, labor intensive stuff that doesn't cost much, just my...
I know who bought it but until he says so, I ain't talking. To me a rebuilt engine is HEMTT porn, even though my engine runs great and burns almost no oil.
I had just finished filling up the HEMTT at a station and I had the truck running and some PLONKER decided to pull his 30+ foot car trailer around the nose of my truck in a tight right turn. If i hadn't quickly put it in reverse and backed up 5' I would have flayed open his whole trailer. I...
You don't apply brake suddenly to stop a wheel turning, unless you want to replace half shafts. I've owned a Hummer since 1993 and have done OBSCENE offroading in it. BEFORE you navigate an obsticle you apply light brake application and add throttle, you increase brake and throttle pressure as...
I TOTALLY agree with you!
I had an M211 that I bought from someone who listened to that old camp that you need non-detergent oil in the transmission. What do you get . . . foam, no anti foaming additives in the oil and it KILLS the transmission. Foam will not apply needed pressure to hold...
Is it ambitious? YES! Can it be done, sure. The key will be well serviced and maintained vehicles. They are doing a good thing by planning well ahead and giving people time to get their rigs into top condition. Got a weepy seal? Get it fixed BEFORE the trip. Not a noisy transmission? R&R...
The 2009 event had a period correct 191x year vehicle. I'm sorry guys but anything slower than a WWII Jeep will kill it for me. As I said 35, is fine but slower is a non starter. I know myself too well that if the road allows it, 45 mph is a better speed. It gives me more beer and BS time...
35 mph I can handle, I might just be able to get the trans to shift into high gear but with an Allison you can't force it. My wife says BS to 35, she doesn't believe it. A friend of ours did the 2009 trip and he told tales of 20's VERY often. Plonkers with WWII Jeeps running out of fuel...
