If you look at most of the old pictures online they show exactly what you described. The later ones actually have a quick disconnect tongue so when it passes you up in the surf you pull a line that goes to the tongue and it releases the lunet ring from the trailer.

The other option is to take the studs out and countersink the hub. At that point it would clear the rim. The only precaution is have a machine shop set up and countersink them because if the countersink is not centered on the stud you will put a lot of stress on the studs pulling them out of...
I agree. Most of the problems I had was the sender going bad and not the gauge. Make sure you have the right sender as well. There is two different temp ranges.

I am wondering if there is something being out of spec or out dated on those wheels because there has been several sets for sale or sold out here in California as well. It is odd that they would surplus new parts for current vehicles across the country with out a reason.

This is why I have no proceeded to get my CDL. I need a Class A for my pickup truck when I am hauling my car trailer but I can not take the test in the pick up and I can not get my class A with the deuce or 5 ton. This state pretty much has their head up their a$$ when it comes to licensing...
