    Fall Camp Dirtbag

Pallets: resist the temptation to throw these in the fire. Each pallet leaves behind something like 36 nails in the desert, and we all know how much fun these can be!

    Fall Camp Dirtbag

Here is a map link that should work: 34°40'44.02"N, 117° 4'47.85"W - Google Maps This is the destination. Use the "get directions" option to get driving directions from your house.

Cooper Discoverer ATR - Good or Bad

I had a friend who ran Coopers on his Jeep Wagoneer back in the '70's and '80's. They had a pretty agressive tread because of the mud that developed whenever it rained at his ranch in Nevada. They were quite loud on the highway and we had a lot of treads fly off, usually at 70 MPH. We...

    What should my voltometer read?

It should read in the green zone with the engine running and some of the voltmeters have a little tick mark. The tick mark is right around 27.2 volts. Sounds like you're not charging at all. Does your truck have an alternator or the older generator and voltage regulator set up? The generator...

Deuce in the sand at the dunes?

Funny you mention that! When I was a kid, one of the club members near Pismo owned a WWII half-track that was previously owned by Steve McQueen. It had a brass plaque inside that said, "The difference between the men and the boys is the price of the toys." The owner towed the half-track to...

    New guy from Norway

One way to tell whether or not you have silicone brake fluid is to purposely drip some on a painted piece of metal. If the brake fluid effects the paint and causes it to bubble or wrinkle, you have regular non-silicone DOT 3 brake fluid. If there is no effect on the paint, you probably have DOT...

    Harbor freight to the rescue

Looks like a very useful tool. I don't know how you could have an M151A1 in storage for 28 years and not drive it! It looks like you prepped it well for storage.

    M1009 High idle in park???

Another possibility is a slight air leak in the fuel system, not enough to stall the engine. I had a crack develop in the fuel hose between the frame and the lift pump. I got a sudden burst of power and high RPM while driving down the freeway, followed by no power and limping to the shoulder.

    Another Day at Pismo

Awesome! I love the cloudless August sky, except for the ominous fog bank lurking offshore. My wife and I were in Avila beach in June and loved it.

    TM-9-1871 bent rims info needed

The old rule of thumb is that once a wheel is bent, it's trash. That being said, a Mule is a slow speed vehicle, so you may get away with straigtening a wheel. Just make TOTALLY sure you don't have the mag wheel before you come near it with a torch .

    M915, M916 heads up

Wreckerman, you are the first person I've heard in years use the term "screwed, blued and tattooed." I used it last weekend to describe all the work done to my dog at the vet's office.

    CUCV key question

I appreciate the help especially the key code. I also like the fact that no one told me to go search, which in fact I did before posting. To quote my first post, "I searched for this answer but I couldn't find it." Now I didn't search for an hour, but I did spend a few minutes looking. In...

    CUCV key question

I searched for this answer but I couldn't find it. Are M1009 Blazer keys identical to M1008 pickup keys (assuming nothing has been changed)? A friend of mine is getting an M1008 with no key and he wants to make a copy of my M1009 key so he can drive the truck. Will this work? Thanks, Matt

    Extreme Expedition Vehicle

Could you post some information on the box you built? I like the side ladder setup. I bet the truck rides pretty nice at 18,000 lbs.

    motor mount install

I had to do the two jack method a few years ago including loosening the transmission mount. Something else I found out the hard way: my '84 Blazer takes the engine mounts for a 1983 civilian Blazer with the 6.2 engine. It seems that DoD chose the 1983 design, at least for the '84 CUCV's and...

    DOT 5 Brkae Fluid

NAPA sells it by the gallon, but it is around $105. It's the good purple stuff.

    original paint job

If I remember correctly, the original REO Eager Beaver was designed in 1949 and production started in 1950 (someone correct me if I'm wrong about this). Even though the truck came out after WWII, the military used WWII paint colors until about 1957. It is interesting to note that the GMC M135...

    Diagnosing Bad Transfer Case

Hey wbdodgeiv, welcome to the site. I agree that you probably removed the transmission cover. The transfer case is behind the transmission and is canted way over to one side. You will might be able to remove more of the cab floor to get to it, but most likely you will have to lower it down and...
