ET is right. These trucks were obsolete by the end of 1942 and were replaced by the 3/4 ton series. They are a quiet, smooth running truck with a nice ride. They don't like to go much over 45 MPH, but they are surprisingly capable off road. They have a non-syncro transmission, but you'll get...
GL-1 helped my tranny and transfer case shift better than whatever was in there and the tranny does not pop out of fourth gear going downhill (as often). I'll consider GL-5 in the differentials at my next oil change. I was going by the LO, but I concede that there has been a lot of development...
Do you have enough space to drill a hole and use a slide hammer to get the plugs out? Remember that you also have to have enough room to hammer the new plug in.
I buy the 5 gallon buckets of good old fashioned GL-1 90wt gear oil at my local auto parts house. I hear tractor supply places sell it as well. You also might want to get the bucket pump at Northern Tool or Harbor Freight, as it will make your life so much easier.
I had exactly the same experience that Bruce had. My M1009 stalled when I let off the gas heading downhill towards a red light. Of course I lost power steering and power brakes. I got her re-fired and headed to the trusty auto parts store and bought a new fuel filter, which fixed the problem.
I sincerely hope this is fresh water and not salt water. If there is water in the differential, most likely your wheel bearings are contaminated as well. And like Recovry4x4 said, change the differential oil, take the truck on a 50 mile drive at highway speed to get things nice and hot, and...
Remember that the transfer case of the M211 has two outputs for the two rear driveshafts, whereas the M35 has one. If you try to drive the two M35 axles from one of the outputs of the M211 transfer case, you could have an overload situation and damage the M211 transfer case.
Hey Brett09, welcome aboard! It's nice to have another member from the IE. The link in below is for the SCMVCC which meets on the second Sunday of the month in Irwindale. Also, there is the IEMVPA that meets in San Bernardino on the second Saturday of the month. Call 909-350-0548 to find out...
"Your ball cap stays right on your head, you don't even have to turn it around backwards. "
Good! I hate the punk backwards baseball cap look.
I'll be doing some freeway driving of my deuce in warm weather (it's a dry heat) this weekend and I will report the results.
More power lets you get the same job done in less time. This is why a truck with more power will go up a hill faster, but even the lower HP truck will still make it up the hill, it just takes more time (probably in a lower gear).
Guys,
The March Field Air Museum is looking for anyone that might have an M35A2, or any other truck with troop seats, to carry some distinguished guests and volunteers this coming Saturday, 7-3-10. The location is in Moreno Valley, CA, not too far from Riverside. The parade starts at 9:30 AM...
Bite the bullet and get all new DOT 5 for your brake system. Even if this is not the cause of your current problem, you are just asking for trouble mixing DOT 3 and DOT 5. The manual specifies DOT 5 for some very good reasons.
Sounds great, I'll try it too. I have also found that if you have a hard top and open the rear window, you will get a surprisingly large amount of air coming in, especially if you have the rear cargo cover on.
