I would say that the truck is an m37b1 which is the later version of the m37. The hood number looks to be in the right format. The b1s had the door tire carrier from the factory but regular m37s were updated with them as well. M37s and m37b1s all had the jerry can holder on the passenger side.

I would guess it was an m201b1, CMU-3, or CMU-5. They had the spotlight on the fender.

The m56 is the long wheelbase chassis. If it is a 1958 it would be an m56b1. There are pieces of the door carrier still on it. Your truck very likely had a utility body on it when it was made.

The box is a voltage regulator that is not used with the 60 amp alternator. The other connector going into it should have 4 pins and plug into the conversion harness.
