The hobby shop on Pendleton is scheduled to close due to budget cuts. The one on Miramar won't let me weld. And the one on MCRD has a welding stall but it's too small to fit the trailer in. So at the moment I'm on hold for the braces and decking.
Today I got the new tongue on. And I took it for a 50 mile drive to see how it tows. It tows straight and smooth. Next is to weld on all the scab plates, braces, and to build the ramps. Then lights and decking. I live in base housing and the manager drove by today though and took pictures of me...
I use a Milwaukee cold saw, a hand held metal cutting skill saw also by milwaukee, and I use an old Makita chop saw. I will use all 3 in the course of a project. It just depends on what, where, and the angle I am cutting at. They all have their place in a shop.
I live 10 minutes from Miramar, But I have to work that week at Pendleton. I am willing to put my Deuce there as static display. Let me know if you need it. I am trying to get my squadron to let me work the air show. But we'll see if that can happen or not.
I don't have a donor Deuce frame. The axle sections that I have are left over from bobbing Deuces. As for the quick disconnect I really haven't figured out what I am going to use yet for the disconnect.
The dove tail will be just a bit higher when I put the 395's on it and I get it finished. I haven't decided on the length of the dovetail yet. It isn't finish welded yet.
I'm trading a set of the wheels to Stazworks for a set of adapters for the other set I have to fit my Deuce. So in the future if anyone else ends up with a set call Stazworks and you can get a set of adapters for them.
Today was a very long day. I had a few friends over for all the sweet tea they could drink and a free lunch. We got a whole lot done. With a couple hiccoughs. I welded the tongue on the wrong angle. So it's tac welded upside down for now. Tomorrow I'll cut the welds and flip it. And I'm going to...
I plan on hauling my 1992 F350 on the trailer. Which I will eventually get around to finishing. I started the Cummins conversion over a year ago. But as with most things. My stuff gets pushed to the back burner so I can build others peoples dreams. But it pays the bills.
Today I loaded 5335 lbs into the bed of my Deuce today and went for a 50 mile drive. I did this to see how it handled the extra weight. A few people have expressed concerns about how the Deuce would handle the extra weight. So I was able to hold 50 MPH at 700 degrees on the EGT on flat land. The...
I had to work for Uncle Sam this weekend and next too. So unfortunately I have made no progress this week or possibly next. I did a little on my Deuce but that was quick.
I thought about that but if I mount them on the bumper they are in the path of the head lights. So I end up with a pretty good sized shadow at about 15 ft out. I almost mounted them on the fenders but they are very short range flood lights. So workable light output is really only about 20 ft...
Today I mounted a set of work lights on the bumper. Tomorrow I am going to mount 4 along the edge of the bed for work lights. I figure as much as I use this truck as a recovery vehicle a bunch of lights individually controlled will be an asset for those middle of the night phone calls "Can you...
Jesse at High Angle Driveline has developed a CV joint for me that will operate at up 80 degrees. We are going to put a slip yoke on each side of the CV joint. If I break that then we are going to move the CV into a gimbal ring. I am hoping that the CV will work so I don't have to machine out a...
