Well, had to get another vehicle since the Dodge is pretty much toast and can't move around much anymore. Knew that camogriz in NY state had his CUCV M1009 for sale along with a M101 trailer for a good price, thought it might be a good candidate for a semi-daily driver as well as a vehicle I...
Wow, you're really doing a number on that dumper. Bet she's going to get a full restoration and every nut and bolt will get the attention they deserve!
Looking forward to the girl being put back together, only this time, with FEELING!
They were empty but modified. The only thing in the trailers were the racks and reels for all the stowable gear, which was not there.
I think they were probably refits from Tobyhanna. Shawn Coleman having them in central PA would make sense...
There used to be a pile of 3/4-ton trailers at Colemans' Surplus that were antenna support trailers. They didn't have an extendable antenna in them that mounted and extended while in the trailer, it was merely a trailer that had lots of cabling, antenna masts, a small genset, and related radio...
I'll keep an eye out for any ads for one online. I've never seen one and I'm sure they are a lot rarer than most WWII radios since they were so large and they were pre-war design. Most pre-war stuff is rarer than the wartime and post-war stuff, mainly due to age. And even if one is found, in...
I've heard great things about this rally! Love to go if I can get my ducks in a row vehicle-wise by then. Plus, I bet July in NH is a LOT better than July down here in the south!
Been awhile since I updated this thread - been going to hamfests but I've been saving up as much as I can for a CUCV so I haven't been buying much at all.
Did save this item at the Manassas VA hamfest this past weekend. Set of crystals for the BC-659 WWII jeep radio set, this lot included...
That truck is worth about $2K to $2500 in scrap value, I'd offer $3K and see what he says. Odds are you meet in the middle, and it'd still be a fair deal IMHO. The M-62 wrecker was a beast and earned its keep throughout the Cold War.
That hood is definitely a Memphis product. Looks stupid...
I think a pool filled with EvapoRust would cost more than the CUCV did. And after 24 hours of soaking, you'd have a cab and some misc. pieces of sheet metal floating in the pool.
Finding an original bed, and some other sheet metal parts, would be fun. And I'm being sarcastic. But even if you plan on keeping the water tank on, and running it non-stock-looking, it would be neat to see her all painted up OD green and driving again!
Great save!
Read. When you're done with that, read. And then, try reading.
The amount of data out there on radio operations and engineering will stagger your mind. Entire libraries are filled with radio-related texts, and that's only the beginning. The more you learn, the more addictive the hobby...
There was an original 6x6 version of the M151 jeep called the XM-408. If any originals still exist, I couldn't tell you. TNJ Murray made some clones of them for a while out of parts units.
Here's one I snapped a picture of at ollied's place last weekend, it was built by Pizzoferrato. Ollie...
The M37 I took to Haspin in 2010 got mud bogged a little, I sold it in 2012, and the guys who bought it found still-moist Haspin mud in the bed frame rails earlier this year when they tore it down for rebuild. The slick Indiana mud REALLY lasts!
Well, guys, I'm probably out, and for several reasons. The stack-up of inconveniences preventing me from showing up is now near insurmountable, so unless things go PERFECTLY for everything in my life next 10 days, I won't be able to make it. Biggest thing on the list is finding a replacement...
My opinion is, if the price is fair, get it even if you are not really interested in restoring it yourself, as long as you can afford it and your wife won't kill you. Post here in the classifieds to get it a suitable home, someone who loves CCKWs and wants to give it a caring home. Sometimes...
Been a couple weeks since I could spend any time on this site, been working like a nut, which is a good thing.
Always a great time had at Aberdeen. The friends are always a joy to see, the weather was great, the auction on Friday is fun, and got to relax and sell some odds and ends at the...
Will be set up around Yellow LM2, same as past couple years, I believe, Dudley knows my exact spaces. Will be there from early Thursday morning to late Saturday afternoon.
Will have some military radio gear, WWII to 1980s, for sale. Some odds and ends, but not a lot like in previous years...
