Finally got some free time to do some work on the 1010. Wanted to upgrade my headlights and headlight harness. Have new E-code style H4 headlights (Autopal ones, I have used in a half dozen vehicles). I wanted to install a new headlight harness that uses relays to control the lights, so they...
So big thanks to SS member andyh1956 I was able to get a mint condition M1010 bezel to work with. I started playing with it last night and it looks like the speedo and tach drop in the factory hole and with the spin ring type mounting of the Speedhut gauges, it squared up to the backside lip of...
I feel your pain. My M1010 has a broken seat/belt bolt on the passenger side. Was like that when I got it but because of it, my wife hasn't ridden in it yet.
Just as an FYI, to improve upon the fuel line adapters, Earl's make a line of hose/fittings called Vapor Guard. They offer these in a AN-6 to either 5/16" or 3/8" hose (not sure if the 5/16" will work on the 1/4" line side). This removes a potential joint that could leak. Just thought I would...
Sadly Stop Leak, to stop leaks also plugs up radiator and heater cores, which will reduce your cooling potential. That is a product of desperation of last resort, like you are in the middle of nowhere and need to get to somewhere to fix your problem. Never use it if you have ANY other option...
Since I have deep into another project I am trying to finish up, I took the M1010 down to the local gear shop and had them drain the diffs and installed the new covers and fresh fluid. Doubt these old covers had ever been off. Only 15,000 miles and the fluid wasn't as bad as I have seen but 35...
Interesting. I swear I have read that leaving that switch on for extended periods of time will drain the battery. Not a problem with daily driving. Interesting...
Yeah, I left my service light switch on the other day and didn't realize it for a couple days. Luckily batteries were not drained but they were low. Put charger on them. Gotta remember to shut of if not using for a bit.
Still working that out. Trying to get a spare bezel that I can work with without having to pull mine apart until I am ready to swap. Short term I am likely to just put an under dash mount for the oil, water and volt so I can monitor those items. They are important to know what's going on. I...
Gathering more parts. I had these gauges custom made by Speedhut. This is their Revolution line but done up to look like their HUMVEE line of gauge. Wanted to keep that military vibe but have modern gauges, since there are none in the CUCV rigs. The LED near the bottom of the gauge is a...
Excellent news. I have been weighing the pros and cons of which OD setup I want to use. Here is where I am at.
700R4 - PRO: Better 1st gear and OD ratio than other options, similar size to TH400 so no driveshaft mods, mechanical system, lockup convertor CON: Needs to be beefed up for M1010...
Cool. Yep, has the heater in the back but that is coming out too. Will likely use a Propex Heat Source unit. Thought about a diesel powered camp heater but they are a little finicky and require more maintenance than a propane unit. Still planning out everything.
Yeah, the Tiny Tach is a great unit. Worked really well and if I wasn't doing a full gauge upgrade, I would have bought another one.
Yes that is an A/C unit for the rear box. Doesn't work and I'll be removing it anyways. Don't need it for my camper build that I am doing.
No, you cannot use a standard "off the shelf" gas engine tach. You have a few options. One, you can use a Dakota Digital tach interface (either using alt or a fiywheel sensor, both listed here http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=694/mode=cat/cat694.htm )...
Hi all,
I did a bunch of searching but really didn't get an answer I was looking for. I was working on the M1010 this weekend and noticed the original rubber trans mounts are toast and need to be replaced. Looking for replacements it seems I can put stock rubber type in or Urethane mounts. I...
Yeah, this past weekend I did the resister bypass (running a wire directly to the battery and not using the 12v tap on the firewall). Then installed a set of Kennedy Diesel Quick Heat glow plugs. It had the original Wellman plugs which luckily did not give me any removal issues but they only...
Couple more available hours so I swapped out the original glow plugs with a set of Kennedy Diesel glow plugs. It did require me to replace all of the plug ends with 1/4" connectors. On to the next project.
