Finally got a little time on my "new to me" M1010. First thing was to do the "doghead" starter relay upgrade. It was nice to find it had already been done. Sweet. Next up, ditching the glow plug resister bank and moving it to 12v system. Checked that off. It was getting late so the last...
Another possibility is that the loose battery wires was causing a very bad ground and any current was trying to go up the line. I have seen some really funky things happen with bad/loose grounds.
Definitely something I am going to look into. With the eventual build out of the back for camping, if I am on a multi day trip and have a flat, I sure don't want to put the old tire into the back. Outside of bouncing around, it would suck to have to unload and load it every time we are using...
Nicely done. Gives me hope. :)
The comment about "have fun lifting" is the one concern I was thinking about. I was thinking about if there was a way to use one of the newer truck crank up systems to raise it into place and then use the stock bar to actually tighten and hold it in place. Sure...
Definitely interested to see the pics. I would love to be able to put my spare in the stock location too, on my M1010. Running 255/85-16 Toyos and really didn't want to have to make a rear swing out rack for a spare.
Are we talking about the same thing? I was referring to the original M1010 heater, not an aftermarket diesel heater. The original one doesn't have an adjustable t-stat. Basically on/off, high/low and fresh air blend door. This is why I was going to remove it and put an aftermarket diesel or...
Problem is, to use it you have to have the vehicle running and there is no thermostat. Not really a good option when you are trying to sleep. I'l have other propane items so adding a heater is no big deal.
Yeah, I am pulling all of that. Our camping is Thanksgiving to Memorial Day so A/C not really needed in the back. Will likely put A/C in the cab (Vintage Air). The heater in this must be ran with the engine running, so not really practical for camping. I'll put in a aftermarket diesel or...
Great looking build. I just bought another M1010 to do my camper build. I had one about 9 years ago and regretted selling it. You have given me some good ideas. Keep them coming.
Here's mine, that I bought from SS member named 319.
I had this issue and once I removed the noise suppressor that plug inline, the wipers worked as they should. It's all plug and play, so really easy to do.
The white wire should trace all the way back to the alternator. The brown wire at the DUVAC is the one that will splice into that white wire. I have a modified wiring diagram from the TSM that shows what we did on my rig. I can email it to you if you PM me your address.
Also, the rear of the frame was extended an extra foot. The box is 9' long versus a truck 8' bed. I agree, unless you need some reason to use the pass though, just seal it up and use a standard truck cab. The cab seal they used was VERY heavy duty and not sure how easy it would be to source.
I had this problem on my recently sold M1010. I found out it was the grey capacitor pack that was bad. If you still have this on the truck, you will notice that the plug on the factory wiring and the plug on the wiper motor will connect directly, without this capacitor pack. This was only...
Cool rig. Though I sold mine (awaiting shipper to pick up) I was going to build mine as a camper. Here was a drawing I did to get an idea of what I was going to do.
