Just a small update to this thread - went to Gilbert PA show last weekend and had a great time. While my funds were low, I still was able to manage to find something for the shelter project. One seller had this rack mounted storage cabinet, built for Tobyhanna Army Depot, CY(7181)/G. It...
Love this build! Not sure how long it has taken for you to get to this point (you started the thread on 9-7-14 and I doubt you got all this done in the past 3 weeks), but you're making great progress!
BTW - love the bumper mounted Wilton vise. And many others love it to. That vise is...
Old fart (well, Frank is olDER), no computer and no desire to learn how to use one. All the info about rallies and upcoming events I have to pass along to him, if he doesn't learn it through MV mag. Why, DH, you don't trust me to act as a suitable ambassador of SS to others? :)
Sources for the LeRoi engines would be appreciated, and I'd pass them on.
He is willing, I should say, to yank the existing tranny unit and replace with whatever works best, even an automatic.
I have a buddy west of here who isn't on Steel Soldiers, he owns a M123 tractor, one of the early ones with the LeRoi gas motor in it. The truck is in nice shape, but the motor suffered a detonation many years ago, so there is a hole in the block, and the rest of the motor got scavenged for...
I had one of those set up at Rausch Creek in fall 2010. It was HEAVY, and required more than one person to set up without messing up your back. Just warning you.
To be fair, yes there were probably a few purchased by GSA and used on base as "grocery getters" just around the base. However, it would have remained in civilian paint jobs, not repainted a subdued color and doctored up with a lot of tactical options. I have also seen an IH Scout and a Ford...
To my knowledge the Jeep Commando was never used by any branch of the US service, nor by any foreign military either. It's probably just a hobbyist who had a Commando, and painted it to "play the role". Like the guys who paint CJ-2As and CJ-3As to portray a M38, or those who use their CJ-5s to...
Would RC allow an enclosed wood stove in the camping area for cooking on? Think: wood stove with a door to load the wood in, flat top, and chimney. Might be an idea to cook on, and provide extra camp heat, without only relying on that **** tiny fire ring of theirs.
Loading the truck up now for the ride up, lotsa little things, manuals, ammo cans, wine crate, tools, etc. Stop on by and say "hi"! Will be in my normal spots on the NE side against the fence. Weather is still slated to be great, lows in the high 40s, high in the 70s. Partly sunny the whole...
I think he got the numbers mixed up - it's not a M101A3, it's a M103A1. Looks great, though! Gives me an idea about taking a smaller M116 genset trailer, and building removable sides out of plywood, so I can use it as a cargo/camping trailer, or remove if I need to haul something a little more...
